A good soundfont for strings?
Andrewjgwaltney - Mar 31, 2012
I've been trying to find a better soundfont for a string piece that I'm writing. I'm currently using the Fluid one that musescore recommends in the handbook. This is a LOT better than the default one, but I'm wondering if anybody has discovered a better one on the net that's compatible with musescore. Any help?

Hmm...Merlin Gold has amazing string sounds. However, you'll need to use the sfARK soundfont compression for it to be compatible with Musescore. It only takes a minute or so. Oh, and always use the single instruments for strings. They have a louder and more definite sound than the groups.
Ah, the Merlin Gold is pretty amazing! I just downloaded it and there were a lot of sounds I was looking for in there. . . I wish you could mix these. Hrm...
They have a TON of full foundsonts on this site! Thank you so much! I'm going to be a busy person for the next few hours... ha
New to this Soundfonts business....how do I get merlinGold to actually play? I've downloaded some other Sf's and can get them to play . MGold doesn't come with an .SF2
currently its here:
C:/Program Files/MuseScore/sound/merlin_gold.sfArk
and whilst not in the least pertinent to this group...I'm on the lookout for a good soundfont to use for a BIg Band score.
Cheers
