Please Help Me, and Download Blocking

First of all, I don't know how to delete scores with copyright infringements. So they are still taking up space on my account, and I can't get rid of them. How could one do that?

One idea I've had is to make an optional download block option - the poster of the score could click a box that allows or disallows the ability of the viewer to download the sheet music file (MuseScore OR Pdf). This might help composers with pieces they want to get published - they could still get advice, but no one would steal the piece. It might also help for those making arrangements of songs that have not gotten permission from the songwriter - if proper credit is given, and download (copying) is not possible, then it shouldn't violate copyright law. I guess the only flaw with this is that the viewer could directly copy it from the score viewing box to MuseScore.... I could understand why people may not like this idea, though, and that's completely fine by me if you disagree. It's supposed to be a sheet music sharing website anyway, so making that would kind of ruin the point. You could say that if people don't want people to download it, don't post it. I'm just throwing it out there for consideration :D

I agree strongly with the no download option. Just saying.

Yeah, I knew you had some scores that you asked people not to download :P

actually, i've been one of the pro-sharing people in the other threads, but you raised a really good point. it's one thing for people to download *my* scores, but if i have special exclusive permission to share somebody else's copyrighted score, then it makes a lot of sense to disable downloads there (and direct interested people to the original).

these days i'm seeing tons of youtube videos that just display sheet music with playback (i think they're using NoteFlight, but i'm not sure). i've seen these videos come from official websites of composers. so obviously the risk of people transcribing sheet music off the images is just as bad there as it is here.

Hm... maybe make an option that also hides the score? Maybe they could just listen to the soundfile..... Though that wouldn't be much fun :/

Agreed.

Concerning deleting posted scores, go to the appropriate score on MuseScore.com, click the "edit" button, and somewhere near the bottom is the "delete score" button. At least I'm pretty sure.

Happy trails, Flyingninja77

Well that's the thing.... I can't access the score. Is there a way to delete them without being able to go the score itself?

I see what you mean. You could contact Thomas or Nicolas. They're on the MuseScore development team. Other than that, I don't know what to do.

@AshBoy I removed the two scores you couldn't remove. It's a bug that you couldn't do this yourself. This will be fixed in the next update of the site. Thanks for reporting.

Okay, thank you very much Thomas!!!!!! :D

Thomas, could you remove a score from my account? It's my arrangement of secrets for string orchestra and piano, the one in the middle and not the top. Thanks.

For MP3 downloads, it would be helpful if the downloaded file came with ID3 tags indicating the copyright restrictions, if any. Naturally that data could be changed by whomever had downloaded it, but it might at least act as a deterrent, at least for honest people.

@Sonya: I use "all rights reserved" because of experiences I had in the past with my writing. At one time I referred to myself as a "shareware poet", and told people they were free to use my writing as long as they cited me as the author. Well, my stuff started popping up on one website after another. In most cases my name appeared with each poem, but then, so did typos and misspellings, even of the titles. Some of my work was quoted out of context or on an inappropriate site. Also, somehow my name often drifted over to another person's poem; it got attributed to me, and what I had written bore the other author's name. In one case, a stupid limerick I wrote was attributed to the author of an even stupider limerick, and my name was on theirs -- it was a bawdy one, too. The webmasters never responded when I e-mailed them with a request to correct the mistake, and some of the stuff can still be found in a Google search.
