Super Mario Bros. for Band

About this score

PRESS READ MORE

This song, originally by Koji Kondo, depicts a moustachioed plumber named Mario travelling through 8 worlds to save his beloved princess. The beginning section depicts him travelling across land, jumping on koopas and goombas in pursuit of his beloved princess. The middle section paints a picture of Mario swimming underwater amongst the Cheep Cheeps and bloopers. The third section shows the ominous presence of Peach's captor, Bowser and his legion of koopas. The fourth and final section goes back to the beginning and reestablishes the happy feeling Mario has as he moves forward to save his princess, followed by a slow, sorrowful ending. This 5 minute long piece was started in March 2011 and is still a work in progress.
It is arranged for a middle school or high school concert band. Please leave constructive comments to help this piece become better than it is now. Do not use.
Oh, and by the way: Percussion 2 doesn't play back.

Sweet! Can I play this on my next concert?

StarFlutist's picture

I love it! Sounds very fun to play!

amythistfire1's picture

*ting (lol I hear that after the game over XD)
You should remix/rewrite/redo this. Just to see how you would do this today, plus it would be freakin' epic!

insaneintherain's picture

...Who says I'm not? ;D

Marcatostaccato's picture

Not to be negative or to take away from the strong effort, but some of the instrument ranges are impossibly low (e.g. Alto Sax can't play a "G" below the staff without the world's most flexible jaw and a rolled-up newspaper). Also, some of the rhythmic auto-transcriptions use eighth notes to represent quarter note triplets when it would be easiest just to use staccato markings on top of the trips (even after many years, MIDI transcription technology is still pretty bad at making music readable). Even when you adjust the quantizing function to a specific value, the notation will never make proper adjustments without a little elbow grease.

It's concert pitch, and I have mentioned that many times >.>

In the process of writing I listened to EVERY arrangement of Super Mario Bros I could find online. This is still my favorite band arrangement. Forever and always.
Also what kind of musician are you?? like are you still a student, or a teacher, or a player, or just a composer?? haha, and what instrument(s) do you play??

Carlos Ortega's picture

I love this arrangement! Amazing! I am still a studdent I go to Hart High School in Michigan with (in my opinion) the best band director! I play Bass Clarinet Clarinet Flute Trumpet Piano All Saxaphones and many more! I compse my own music, just finished the best one i have composed so far! This piece is amazing! I'll see if our band can play it just for fun :)

insaneintherain's picture

Thanks! I like being someone's favorite. :3
I'm actually a freshman in high school, but I wrote this in the 7th grade. I'm a student, tutor, player, arranger, and composer. I play clarinet, alto sax, BARI sax, and piano.

Amythistfire's picture

And Tenor now. lol

You're welcome, and wowwwww ... that's pretty freaking great lolll

insaneintherain's picture

I remember when I wrote this... but it sucks in comparison to the stuff I have now...

Hey, insaneintherain! Your song isn't the most popular! :( I just descovered it. Aside from Ashboy's Fugue of the Storm, which has the most favorites and comments, there is another song here which has more views: http://musescore.com/user/15319/scores/26467

Currently it has:
18868 views

Good luck in beating him out! XD

Also "Reunion" by Marc Sabatella

insaneintherain's picture

And Goldberg Variations as well.

Lol, I guess. Oh well. Something to strive for.

The trick is to get it into the featured scores on the homepage!

Nice Job! This is the best band arrangement of this piece I have seen. Keep up the good work (;

Tberar's picture

Trumpet part a little too fast but AWESOME!!!

insaneintherain's picture

Of course, it always is.

whirlstar's picture

No one else thinks that that trumpet part is a bit fast to play?

Amythistfire's picture

No, I can play this, and Ive been playing for only 4 years.

insaneintherain's picture

No one ever said it wasn't ;)

Ronan's picture

No I don't think so. My trumpet teacher can play Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korskavov (if that's how you spell it) at the correct tempo. I'm sure this is just a little fast for beginners or if you've just started looking at this piece. Maybe if you practice the part it mightn't seem fast any more.

I think you've got the award for most views. As of 27/05/2012 12:18 PM (Australian Eastern Standard Time) this piece has now achieved a whopping 11,316 views!

This should also be performed in bands and orchestras! This is worth being performed at the Opera House!

insaneintherain's picture

Yeah, I have the most viewed. It's really not that great. I arranged this a LOOOONG time ago, and most of my pieces now are better.

natty0102's picture

OMG! How good is this!!! I play flute (grade 6 AMEB) and this is really fun to play!! I doubt my band (Gold Coast Youth Orchestra Second Symphony) could play this but the bigger symphony probably could but WOW how did you do this!?!?!?!?

insaneintherain's picture

Well, I entered notes and pitches, but that's about it. :3

MegaMettaurs3001's picture

Yes, this has the most views on all of MuseScore. However, it isn't the most popular song on the website. :/ You're in competion with AshBoy, as he's written the most popular song (Fugue of the Storm, link here: http://musescore.com/user/14997/scores/25817). Not as many views, but 226 comments, as of this point, and 71 favorites.
All of this is to say, I wish you the best of luck to become more popular!

insaneintherain's picture

I guess that's true as well. Oh well. I plan to go pro soon, so that may help.

MegaMettaurs3003's picture

Go pro? Cool. You earned it, man!

Amythistfire's picture

Could I use this ( minus the Saxophones , F Horn , Bassoon , Tuba , and percussion ) for our high school band ? Also , could I repost ( my version without the instruments ) to show my music teacher ? I will delete it after he ' s seen it .
