Favorite Music
I like music in between simple and complex, or dissonant and plain. I feel that is the ultimate goal to creating a beautiful original piece. My Idea of music, is a diamond, with extreme dissonance at one corner, and extreme tonality at the opposite corner. Both corners are tight, which leave little room for originality, either it is so dissonant that you can't really distinguish the pieces, or the pieces are so tonal, that you don't have any good rhythmic, or harmonic motives, that are original. In the middle however, it is dissonant enough to use a wide range of chords, and rhythmic motives, but still have a tonal melody which distinguishes it. Composers I feel who have achieved very near this 'ultimate' goal, are: Debussy, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Chopin, Dvorak, Ligeti, Mckay, Liszt, Prokofiev, Grieg, Bartok, and Vivaldi. Pieces I think have reached very near this are: Night on bald mountain, Prelude in Em (chopin), Un Sospero, Prelude in C#m (rachmaninov), and a few others.
Favorite Genres
Romantic, and Impressionistic, for these were the height of classical music, that isn't overly tonal, or dissonant.
