THE STORY: How it happened

Creating this collaboration wasn't easy, considering Ashboy and I live in different parts of the US, but we made it possible with 1 month time, 3.26 MB of shared online storage space, and approxomately 350 e-mail messages. It sounds more like a chore....but Ashboy and I ALWAYS found a way to make it fun =)

The whole Idea for the epicawesomistic collaboration started a loong time ago, when ashboy arranged my piece, The Heat of the Moment, for rock quartet (the piece is no longer up). There was a comment by a MuseScore.com user [who will remain anonymous] that said “You guys should work together more often” Ashboy responded saying “I didn't really change much. But I'd love to really team up on something.” A couple of weeks passed, and I got the idea to do a real collaboration with Ashboy considering that it was summer time. And Ashboy LOVED the idea, quote: “I think collaborating will be AWESOMISTIC!!!!!!!!!!” Hence the collaboration's title, “The Epic Awesomistic Collaboration.” It was Ashboy's suggestion that we base our collaboration off of COMBINING our pieces.

I really hope you like it. I greatly enjoyed making it. And I greatly thank Ashboy for his time and dedication to this collaboration.

Enjoy =)

AshBoy's piece description:

Well, TNK pretty much said it all! I've really enjoyed working with him, he was always ready to help when I was in a bind, and I think we accomplished some really interesting things together with this piece. Combining different parts from our pieces required a lot of experimentation, but it was TONS of fun. Together, we managed to synthesize some of our pieces into eachother, and I think the effect is REALLY cool. We also managed to compose an original beginning and ending together!!

For maximum enjoyment, I would suggest TURNING UP THE VOLUME. There are a lot of parts in this that make the best effect when they're nice and loud - of course, don't hurt your ears, make it comfortable!! That squeaky violin soundfont can get annoying when too loud... =P

Anyways, thanks so much for listening!!! I wouldn't be where I am today without TNK and the rest of you guys, so thanks so much for the support!!!
I hope its a worthwhile 9 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

well this is 100 times better than mine ashboy. i cant even compose a piece for 15 instruments

AshBoy's picture

Well I have a counter-argument for this one too - TNK and me wrote it together!! =D He did a lot of the orchestration. And have you attempted composing for lots of instruments? If you slowly build up the number of instruments, you'll eventually get a feel for a whole bunch at once.

whirlstar's picture

Beware, all piccolo players...
rest your fingers while you can.

I love this!

AshBoy's picture

Haha, agreed.
Thank you very much!

MaeThePirate's picture

oh my goodness O_O I was just listening to this nonchalantly when somehow this dubstep song i have on itunes started playing and it matched the beat perfectly and it sounded AWESOMEE

AshBoy's picture

WHOOA COOL.
And you made this comment last April but
WHOOA COOL. I assume it was on the Heat of the Rockstorm Part?

deb's picture

omg! I love it!

AshBoy's picture

Great, thanks!

steelviper4's picture

Just realized that I was not already following you (Ashboy). Oops! Well now I have lots of great music to listen to!
And this is incredible. 9 minutes well worth while! All the different pieces sounded great together! I also try to appreciate how hard a collaboration is, but my awesomistic-scale is already busted out the top anyway. I wish I had more time to listen to all Ashboy's stuff, but it will have to wait. And in a month... that's just insane!!!

AshBoy's picture

Thanks so much!! Do you need a new awesomistic-scale? I have several in my basement >:D

Talaylay's picture

9 minutes..,.. oh boy my ears (and eyes) are on a feast

AshBoy's picture

Oh good good good. I was worried 9 minutes would be a little overkill (as TNK can tell you), glad you enjoyed it!

Flyingninja77's picture

Also, a link in the description no longer works. You might want to fix "My First Lulluby, by TheNewKid" (and you might want to spell it right when you do).

TheNewKid's picture

Yea that link won't work anymore. I took "My First Lullaby" down a long time ago to make room for my new pep band arrangement of "I'm a Believer"

http://musescore.com/the_new_kid_2/im-a-believer

Flyingninja77's picture

I just finished listening to this again. It's still "awesomistic."

Caking's picture

THE END =D
Lolzicake.

TheNewKid's picture

Yea that was my idea =D Ashboy liked it...BUT HE WANTED TO PUT A PICTURE OF A WAFFLE ON IT...

AshBoy's picture

Lolol.
And I still managed to sneak waffles in.
And there's nothin' you can do 'bout it Xd

Caking's picture

Should've put some waffles.

Caking's picture

Should've put some waffles.

Night Hawk Rider's picture

gosh I can't stop listening to this!

Night Hawk Rider's picture

This is an absolutely amazing piece that truly deserves the title: THE EPIC AWESOMISTIC COLLABORATION.

AshBoy's picture

Thanks so much!! I'm glad you think the title is appropriate =P

tryboxx's picture

Great job but how you write this song? How do you have been inspired to create somethink like this? He is brilliant!

AshBoy's picture

Me and TNK basically just combined a whole bunch of pieces that we'd already written, except for the beginning and end (though I kinda stole inspiration from his Odyssey: Canyone of Darkness when working on the beginning and end). It was a lot of fun, I think we both just developed a love of composing from a love of music =)

Kieler83's picture

Great job... In my opinion the "mp" in the Grand Finale comes too sudden. And i´d expected a longer finale. But doesn´t matter. Both of you did a great job!

AshBoy's picture

Yeah, I think we were just so desperate to finish after days of endless working. But I myself think its long enough - I'd be really surprised if everyone who listened actually sat through the whole thing!! Thanks =D

LoveandBooks's picture

"Heat of the Rockstorm" wass AMAZING!

AshBoy's picture

Thanks! Yeah, that's probably one of my favorite parts too. I also like the end.

Amateur Advancement's picture

This is amazing! This has really inspired me, it's beautiful yet epic. The title really fits the song! I only have one recommendation, on the high parts of the 1st violin, I would have trouble telling the notes that quickly so I'd bring them down onto the staff and just use the "8va" sign, but other then that, I think i'm half the views! Great Job over and over!

AshBoy's picture

Thank You!!! Geez, half the views.... watching this over 1000 times would take, lets see, 6.9 days of straight listening over and over again? Haha, I'm really glad it inspired you. Yeah, I highly doubt this is going to ever be performed or anything, so me and TNK didn't worry too much about notation. We just concentrated on the sound. Thanks tons =D

TheNewKid's picture

I checked your math Ashboy...I came out to approximately 6.296 days

AshBoy's picture

Oh yeah, whoops. I rounded the song to 10 minutes, not 9. My bad. I think i'd be tearing my ears off at the point of having this played for even 4 days straight...... day and night....

Flyingninja77's picture

I checked both of your math; it came out to 6.296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296296....

Happy trails, Flyingninja77

lol

Amateur Advancement's picture

So i was off, lol i'm suprised i'm even in honors math. Well still great job!

ScarlettOak's picture

Hey, Ash, can you do me a favor and join a new group I made? It's called MuseScoreImagery. I Want to gather new generation people who can make music like you and beginners. If you join, can you invite others?

ScarlettOak's picture

Wew! What can I say? I believe kids have more talent AND imagination than the adults. The old geezers always go for the classics (lol). I'm all for the new generation of music makers!

TheNewKid's picture

Oh...and if i may add one more thing...I don't think it's whether or not you're a kid or an adult... But I think that people who are kids on the inside are generally more creative than people who are adults on the inside =)

AshBoy's picture

Haha - true to an extent. You can't apply that to people like John Williams or John Schmidt (<-- AMAZINGLY creative piano player, look him up on youtube if you've never seen him.) But I still can't get a very good time from those hour-long symphonies..... I mean, I appreciate the work that goes into them, but GEEZ they kinda get boring after a while.

Nathan Ryland's picture

Perhaps you have not listened to Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2. Simply amazing the whole way through. All 63 minutes of it. :)

Mega's picture

(Spelled Jon Schmidt...Sorry, I'm picky about that kind of stuff.)

ScarlettOak's picture

There's a lot of amazing people out there that have talent, but some of them sound more boring if they just use the mathematics to music, not imagination.

TheNewKid's picture

I used to do that...that is THE MOST FRUSTRATING thing I've ever done...

Mega's picture

@AnnaOak, that's absolutely true, but honestly, I don't think many people use mathematics to compose now a days Even the great composers of old, such as Bach, Beethoven, etc. used there own immagination for the most part. I read in a book that Debussy said, "Of all my music, have of it came by accident."

corgimaster's picture

I can't bring myself to stop listening to the pure epicness that is emerging from my speakers right now.

great job

AshBoy's picture

Hehe, thanks!!!

PurpleToad's picture

:) very well put together, although Id kinda rather listen to all the songs its made up of.....................
On a different note, I dont know whether this is appropriate for a public place like this, but: I thought I sent you a message, but it wouldnt go through, and then the window closed and I thought that It had been sent, and its been a little,so I figured you didnt really feel like answering me, which Im fine with, but then I just..... anyway, Im all confused, and Im kinda bieng a real bother to you, but did the email ever get through? :) sorry...........

TheNewKid's picture

I don't know about ashboy but I never received an email. I ALWAYS write back ALWAYS. Even if it's as simple as "I can't talk right now." I will ALWAYS write back

PurpleToad's picture

well, I didnt email you becuase I wanted someone who wrote string quartets I think-I am all confused now, my memory goes back about 7 hours :() or it could have been becuase I found myself on his account or OH I KNOW I wanted to do an electronic version of fugue of the storm, and this was before he said anyone could do anything................. but dark plant wanted to do a techno version, I wonder If he is going to do that................. or if he would mind if I did one too, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaag once I get talking I never shut up
