When you change the soundfont, it really jacks up the dynamics.... :/ lol the harp was wayyyy too loud.

AshBoy's picture

Goodness, I had turned up my volume really loud to hear the piano, then the harp about broke my speakers XD Yeah, definitely use the mixer to turn up the piano. If you've already turned it up to max, I'd suggest turning down the harp, I feel its a bit loud. Maybe just play with the dynamics. The drum parts sounded really cool though, and I like the song! Great job =D

lol! hhahaha yeah, havent messed with the mixer with this one yet. lol okay, will do. ;) loll Thanks!

MaeThePirate's picture

I really like this one too, geez your really good at composing.. but also~ some advice is you might want to use the mixer. Its just something so that in the playback you can change it so you can actually hear the piano, cause I've had to put my volume quite loud to hear this. But seriously I really love all your music ^.^

Moe's picture

lol :) thank you so Much!!!!!!! :) lol how do I use the Mixer? (I am REALLY bad with Technology stuff! lol ) :)

MaeThePirate's picture

Dont worry someone had to explain this to me too because I didn't understand xP you go to the drop down menus at the top of musescore, hit Display then click Mixer. It will open a pop-up box with all the intruments of your peice and you can mess with the sound balance and reverbation and such. All i use is the sound though xP

woah! 0.0 I never knew you could do that!!!!!!!! 8D

coolio man! do you know how to change soundfonts? your piano songs would be amazing with a grand piano soundfont!!!!!!!! :)

Second_Rachmaninov's picture

You can go online and download and SF2 file. Sometimes there Zip's and SFarks and SPacks, which need decompressing. When you download your soundfont you can go to display, click synthesizer, and then go to the soundfont box, and search for the soundfont you want. My suggestions for free soundfonts are:

acoustic_grand_piano_ydp_20080910.sf2
Fluid-soundfont.tar.gz
merlin_gold.sf2
is merlin symphony $
garritan$
Pro-tools$
Sonatina Symphonic
Garageband.

Try Polyphontics or Vienna for creating soundfonts.
Hope this was helpful (:

Oh! How do you find all the extra ones online? are they free? :) I only knew of like 5!

Second_Rachmaninov's picture

not all of them, merlin gold, is an Sfark, but the link to an SF2 version is here https://www.box.com/s/c4a6b1a37cf84f257593. All of the soundfonts I put the $ cost money, ranging from around 10$ (Merlin Symphony) to 1000$ (Pro-tools) I tried giving you the download links, but there rather massive, and my computer crashed while uploading, so you will just have to search things. Some tips and info:

All of these files are massive, over 100 MB.

Unless you can find an SSO decompressing app, go to newsgrounds.com link when you search Sonatina Symphonic. The Newsground version of Sonatina Symphonic, has every instrument in a separate file, so if you have a PC, you can download Vienna to patch it back together, or even create your own soundfont! Which is actually pretty easy (: Sonatina Symphonic only contains instruments, you'd find in an orchestra.

Fluidsynth, and Merlin gold both have some good instruments, and not so good. Merlin golds Strings and Percussive instruments are amazing, but their winds and brass don't compare with fluidsynth's, so it depends on your style of writing.

The acoustic grand piano soundfont, is simply amazing when it comes to solo piano works, It's over 138 MB of the same instrument.

Merlin Symphony, is probably the best soundfont, I know of, but it does cost money.

Garritan cost's around 100$ last time I checked, and is the best sound library, I know of.

Garageband, is mac only, and is a good sound library, for more rock and roll, but you can by and orchestral "Jam Pack" for your songs. It is decent for reverb and mood.

Pro-tools, is the best program for recording, and mixing, but It costs a lot.

Altiverb is the best you could do in terms of reverb and mood, but costs 600$ You can select different concert halls, or even a car.

Best wishes (:

lol okay! I may just look for a free one, (Merlin Gold sounds like it would be okay for pieces like this, right?)

How do I make a SFARK file usable in the Soundfont? I downloaded a couple, but I have no Idea how to make them be able to be used in musescore....... :/ Im sorry! I am REALLY bad with technology....
but I do know how to use a Zip file.

Second_Rachmaninov's picture

just look up sfark decompressor.

Bonk001's picture

Did you add more instruments to this? It sounds fuller and more complex

cjbrandt's picture

WOW!!! I am very impressed! This is great! The drum parts really kept things intense and moving forward. Your melody was very dramatic and emotional. Well done:)

Moe's picture

Thank you so Much!!!
any Critisism? :)

Moe's picture

Thank you!

Ronan's picture

This is really awesome. It is a very dramatic piece in my sight, and really does go for that 'Discover' theme you were looking for.

BlackTecno's picture

Ah percussion, we barely play or we play very repeatedly.

Moe's picture

anything to fix?

Moe's picture

How should I fix this? some spots are messin up........ Im adding a Bb Clarinet at home now.

cjbrandt's picture

You defintely got the cool factor you were going for. I like this alot. It's got a very interesting combination of instruments. You really made them work well together. Good job:)

Moe's picture

Thank you!!!!!
:)

Bonk001's picture

I like how the drums echo off each other, it sounds cool :D The changes into 3/4 and back into 4/4 don't throw me off either, I think it was because of the drums, they keep the beat all the way through :) You should make different movements of this, like when the explorer dude gets lost or somethin :)

sydneyrose7788's picture

I LOVE THE PART AT 29. i saw it coming and i was like: "Awwww yeah! that's gonna sound awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............

and it did!!!
actually it doesnt sound really weird and i think the drums added a lot of rythm and a pretty steady beat. it was the metronome kind of thing. it was really cool and different and i defintly like it

Moe's picture

:):) anyy critisism???

sydneyrose7788's picture

um i think it was in the beginning it's hard to hear the drumset tht was only doing the quarter notes and the violin/cello part i mean i understand if thts how u want it it sounds good they're just harder to hear bc when its piano its rlly soft and hard to hear at least for me

Moe's picture

okeeeeeeeee. I trryed to fix that this time :) so here!
