About this score

==**READ DESCRIPTION**==
This piece is supposed to tell the story of a man who died in battle.

The French Horn, that starts the main melody of the piece, represents the man at an early age; learning everything he needs to know in case of battle. The chorus portrays his friends and family preparing him and showing him compassion.

The feeling of the piece suddenly changes when the man’s village is attacked by an opposing village. Using what he learned from his friends and family, he takes up arms with the rest of his companions to fight.

The battle starts and at first the man is horrified by the act of war until someone attacks him from behind and he has to fend for his life and in the process he kills the attacker. He has a change of heart, the adrenaline starts pumping through his body and he starts enjoying fighting. He begins slaying more and more people when from behind, a man trusts his sword through his chest and the mood changes yet again.

The man falls over on the ground and then is cast up into the heavens; he looks down and sees the whole battle taking place. He shuts his eyes and when he opens them again he is in a hall of eternal feasting, Valhalla in Asgard. The man realized that he had died and realized where he was, which brings us back the opening melody. An eternity of feasting for the slain in battle…

Pretty good work. I would have liked to hear a slower section in the middle, something to relieve the tension for a bit, with a return of the hero's theme to remind us of him, create some hope. Maybe with some kind of variation. But a very good piece.

Thank you, i think that would be a nice to add in.

Good , but , near the begiining when the bassoon and euphonium have the semiquavers , i don't think that these are particularly playable for such a long period of time

evilpie3's picture

I do not play bassoon, but I do play euphonium and it would be possible to play... it would get tiring none the less

Big Johnny's picture

I play bassoon, and I'm not sure the semiquavers are very easy.

evilpie3's picture

Not easy, but possible !

Wow, that was really good. You captured everything in your description very well, it was really fun to listen to while reading each part of the description, amazing job!! Did you come up with that story on your own? The only place I know Asgard from is the movie Thor.... But I guess its probably a big part of Norweigan legend, so this is what Norweigans believed would happen if you died in battle? Really great, I enjoyed it!

The whole premise of this piece came from a story i was writing for my English teacher. It took me about 3 weeks worth of research before i new enough to write the story. It ended up that i like the story so much that i wrote a piece about it , funny how things work out like that... And to your final question, yes this is what the Norse (West Germanic people) believe will happen if they die in battle.
Thank you for your positive feed back !
P.S.
Thor is the reason i wanted to write the story in the first place ;D

Good. Although reading your tags is like strange some stream of consciousness sentence.

Haha, I noticed that too.
