General Interests
The scores I post here are mostly songs, with various instruments used to simulate the vocal parts. Musicologist Robert Spencer wrote of Thomas Campion: "[his priorities were] of the order of poem, melody, and lastly singer ... Campion at his best exposed and heightened the meaning of the whole poem by floating it on simple but expressive melody." And Campion himself defended his deliberate musical simplicity thus: "A naked Ayre without guide, or prop, or coulour but his owne, is easily censured of everies eare, and requires so much the more invention to make it please." These comments describe very clearly my own orientation and goals as a poet-songwriter."
