- General Interests
- I love composing, arranging, writing music, writing anything, really, hanging with friends, tap dance, running... you know, most of the typical stuff a 15 year old would do. I don't enjoy composing complicated works, for to me, music is not about non-chord tones, or strange rhythmic patterns, or sub dominant chords. Music is about beauty; quiet, understated beauty is more powerful than running couplets over triplets over sextuplets. While occasionally I do compose more technical pieces, most of my works will feature a single motif rather than explosions of disjointed melodies. That is what I find more moving.
- Favorite Music
- Brahms' Piano Quartet in C Minor, especially the third movement, is possibly the greatest piece of classical music ever. Barring, of course, Phillip Glass's Mad Rush. That's an entirely different matter. My favorite contemporary artists are basically any British singer with a weird voice: Ellie Goulding, Marina and the Diamonds, Bo Bruce, The Crash, Paloma Faith are among the top.
- Favorite Genres
- I love classical music, especially modern and baroque eras. Phillip Glass is kind of my idol, because the way he can take a simple motif and elaborate upon it until it resounds with beauty is absolutely astounding. Music, to me, is not about how many supermetrical appogitura notes you can stuff inside a piece, or about having a unique rhythm. It's about emotion, and disjointed melodies rarely evoke emotion as well as simple ones. I also really enjoy a lot of pop, alternative, retro, soul, frankly anything besides metal. Music has a big impact on me whenever I listen to it, so it's difficult to choose a favorite genre. They all have a different effect.
