It's mostly an experiment. I haven't had any training with composition, and it most definitely shows in my work, so feel free to tell me where I can clean up, what sounds good, and what doesn't sound good. I'm looking to improve. I've always had music running through my mind, usually some catharsis inducing epic orchestral type thing, but I'm terrible at translating them to sheet music and I'm usually half out of my mind from sleep deprivation and hyped on strong coffee when I think of them. This is also my first time experimenting with brass. I don't like the brass MIDI, but I hope it would sound better in reality. Hopefully someday I'll here my work performed. I'm a senior in high school now, and soon I might be exposed to environments that'll allow me to think of better things, but for now I'm just slapping things together out of curiosity. Please comment if you listened, I'd like to know what others think. Constructive criticism is encouraged, but if you'd like to be destructive, go ahead and vent, I'm not very sensitive to degradation.

Seems that I have joined the "no training in composition" club:)
I find that the piece is wonderfully atmospheric, a very heavy, dark but rich in texture. However, the sense of cilmax (for me) has not arrived even at the end. If you're aiming for a contemporary feel that's fine( but I'm a very traditional in my writing). Your use of compound meters is intresting, and this is where I recomend where the cilmax should be. Your use of the lower strings should not be confined to rythmic patterns, that's what percussion are for. For instance, in the first few bars you could give them a trill or tremolo to add more tension, like a very intense foreshadow.
If I sound very much longwinded, please forgive me. This piece has potential, and that can be made into somthing very beatiful.
I really do have absolutely no training in composition. Haha. But I do thank you for the recommendation. I was mostly experimenting with irregular time signatures and key changes. To be honest, most of this piece is randomized. I laid the notes out so that they simply fell in with the others. It came out more dissonance than harmony. I do plan on making more, but inspiration is hard to come by. I'm still getting used to the program, so I haven't fully utilized some of its best features. As for my style, I enjoy contemporary as well as the traditional/classical spheres. My music tastes range from Mozart to Philip Glass to Led Zeppelin to Tool to Devin Townsend and everything in between. Be it Rock, Classical, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, or Older Rap (Modern rap has no content or effort in it, or at least less than its predecessors). Any criticism is welcome. I aim to improve. If I had the opportunity to study formally, it would be nice, but I live in an area with little to give in the way of musical instruction, and what little there is costs a lot. Basically, I'm self-taught and prone to error. Thank you for all recommendations, I'll try to put more into my next piece.
Well, i'm another person without hardly any training in the music composition feild and I thought it was very good. i play the trumpet `(would like to play a c trumpet ;> ) and the part was very moving/myterious. It has a kind of suspensful feeling to it. All in all, wonderful! ;)
Well, sadly I have no training in any musical field. The most I can play on a piano are chords and a few melodies. Most of the pieces I make become randomized at points, so as for melodic themes, there aren't many. I most likely neglected to switch things up on the strings. I was most focused on how to work with irregular time signatures. Thank you for the tips!
Thank you very much. I'm still getting used to adding percussion. No offense is taken to criticism. It gives me something to work to, or improve on. It means a lot to know my work is appreciated. I hope to one day compose something great. My ultimate goal is to induce catharsis, but I'm years away from achieving it. I'll get there eventually.
Pretty good for an experiment :) It certainly set the moods
Thanks!
