Chorale Fantasia on Te Deum Laudamus BuxWV 218 by Dieterich Buxtehude
Uploaded on Sep 10, 2013
This wonderful piece, after an introductory prelude takes it's thematic inspiration from the plainchant tune to the Te Deum Laudamus, each section having the title of the position in the chant the section is based on. I have addressed some of the musical idiosyncrasies in the original text, and have realised them as I think Buxtehude would have performed them, adopting a policy of what sounds musically coherent rather than slavishly sticking to the original transcription by Phillipp Spitta which can be found on IMSLP if you wish to see exactly how I have diverged from Spitta's source.
