Today marks the release of MuseScore Piano Roll. Piano Roll is a popular and convenient method to display piano notation in a way that not only simplifies learning a new piece for novice musicians who lack a teacher, it also beautifully visualizes each score.
(Video captured from https://musescore.com/classicman/scores/33715 )
Give it a try by simply clicking on the Piano Roll icon now available on all solo piano scores. Be sure to tell us what you think in Improving MuseScore.com!
All of these improvements are designed to not only make MuseScore.com the most valuable resource online for sharing and discovering great musical works but for learning them as well.
We hope you’ll be as excited about this new feature as we were to create it for you, and as always we look forward to your feedback.
This is just the first of an exciting series of updates and releases for MuseScore PianoRoll; we're already hard at work on improving the experience!
I thought it was a problem only with musescore 3 files in the app, but there was more:
1-I can't open any musescore file from another location (the app opens, the process is initiated but score doesn't appear) and
2-In Songbook I have + UPLOAD MSCZ FILE, I click it, I can select the location and the mscz file, but the score doesn't appear and is not saved in Songbook
The only way I can save a score in Songbook is to save it to My Scores in Musescore, open My Scores in the App and finally choose the option Save to Songbook.
Not an easy way to reach my goal...
Can you tell me something about?
I don't know if this is happening with all scores but it is happening with my Pathetique Sonata for Orchestra score. The rewind button is not working. I tried rebooting my computer just to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. It still isn't working after the reboot.
Here is my computer and browser that I'm using:
Windows 10 Dell Inspiron 15
Any idea what is causing this issue or when it will be fixed?
After update recently , I can’t import file into the apps.
I never changed my profile picture and this randomly happened. It seems to have happened to other users as well. Can this be fixed? Thanks!
So... since Musix Fox was deleted this group's been owned by a site staff member. Should one of the admins make an ownership request, and if so, which one?
How do I put scores from the Songbook into ‘FAVORITES” in the app?
Currently when one plays a score with one or more instruments hidden before uploading, the highlighting which tells the positioning of playback no longer works. See example, https://musescore.com/user/4534311/scores/5530320
I've already reported the bug via email, but I am posting the bug here so that other users are aware of it.
We should have a single word to describe this chronic ailment which flares up every few weeks, i.e, the space bar neither starts nor stops the player. Firefox, mac, here's a score https://musescore.com/bsg/scores/5529279#comment-5214847 . There's no point in being upset any more.
I'm fine with whatever.
I look at the statistics a lot because they’re a great feature and are very helpful. But more often than not I wonder what my total lifetime views are. I added them up not too long ago and it was about 10,040. But it took a long time because I have like 28 scores. I wish on the page it would just tell you there.
I might have actully suggested this a while ago but I don’t remember and it doesn’t exist so...
I have a simple melody in Am and the key changes in the score to A. If you use the musescore for Android function for transposing (+2) then only the A key is changed to B key. The Am part still shows Am.
Hey I have yet to receive feedback on a piece I posted and saw the thing about letting you know so... yeah. Its called Mary Had a Little Lamb (not a joke just listen to it). I am doing this from my phone and links aren't working for me otherwise Id post the link too :)
Am I the only one who pretends to play the piano with my 10 fingers on a table when I get bored? (and when I don't feel like taking the phone)
It seems with this version is impossible to add a score to my SongBook. I tried the two methods that worked in previous versions:
1. Open in Musescore (from Gdrive or any other cloud app).
2. Drag and drop via Airdrop from my Mac to my iPad.
In both cases, nothing happens (well, with Airdrop there is a small flash saying "copying", but nothing is copied).
I reinstalled the app from the Appstore, only to see my previous scores in my SongBook are gone...
Thanks a lot for your work!
Read the mission statement/about areas to see what's going on.
The score was composed by Julian Cabrera (or Baragon1314) and put onto Musescore on 2016-01-09. It was the first score I heard when I joined Musescore and I really want to find it if someone has the original, unedited file. I really love the piece and hope to find it.
MuseScore introduces mobile practice mode
Every day hundreds of thousands of people use MuseScore services for practicing music, learning scores or preparing for performances. The Catalog created by the MuseScore community is the biggest score library.
We’ve been recently putting a lot of effort into improving the product for performers, not only on the website but in the mobile app.
At the moment, our App processes scores the same way our desktop solution does. But mobile devices have their peculiarities (mainly because of the screen size and touch-interfaces). It’s not always convenient to read scores using our current mobile app, especially if users don’t want or don’t know how to manage more advanced app settings. Users have to turn pages all the time (even more often than when they use regular paper scores) if they’re using the Play mode. So, they can’t see the next measure when done playing the current one. Also, it’s not clear where to manage such settings as the metronome, tempo or transposing.
Taking all this into account, we’ve launched another update which is aimed at the global improvement of mobile apps for professional performers and students.
Please, welcome Practice Mode. Now you’re one click away from entering a special mode, aimed at simplifying the process of playing an instrument and learning new scores.
In this mode, users see scores in a "continuous view" shown in one line with perfect readable scaling applied. Simply by clicking the Play button, users hear the metronome intro which is followed by the convenient flow of notes. Users can always see what they’re playing, along with a couple of more measures that are coming up next.
On the same screen, users not only change the tempo, the key or turn the metronome on/off but also play the original sound of the instrument (to hear whether they’re playing it correctly).
This improvement is supposed to make the App more convenient to use, and really, get it on the next level. Now it’s becoming much easier and more comfortable to learn and perform scores from the huge MuseScore catalog.
At the moment, we’re looking for the App and the new mode beta-testers.
To join the beta-testers community, follow the link and click "Become a tester".
After we’ve released the next build supporting the new mode, you just need to install it, open any score and you’ll be immediately redirected to the needed mode. We really hope that this update will visibly improve your experience and help with the development of your musical skills.
We are open to any suggestions and appreciate your help with the development of the new mode. You’re welcome to join us!

P.S. Planned date for the first beta release of the feature - the next week.
