I search for an arrangement of a popular piece and I am overwhelmed with results:
- Half are just garbage or low effort attempts.
- Some are reasonable arrangements but still miss the mark
- Many are duplicates of another user's submission with slight modifications
- Finally(!), there will be 1 or 2 excellent arrangements
As the popularity of Musescore's online hub increases (this is a good thing!), there absolutely NEEDS to be a system to rate and sort content. Sorting by "Relevance" seems to return results based on views (and maybe favorite counts?) which rather arbitrarily promotes whatever submission is oldest. If it wasn't for the thumbnail pictures giving me a good visual clue of the quality of the piece, I would rarely search for sheet music on this site.
The current Favorites feature is great, but just because I like a piece or think it worthy of promotion doesn't mean I want it saved to my Profile. As a result, I use the Favorite button sparingly, as it should be. A ratings system, separate from Favorites, needs to be implemented.
A ratings system!
I see that this topic comes up periodically, and the usual discussions ensue over whether negative feedback (e.g. thumbs down, 1 star, etc) is against the spirit of the site and so on... but regardless of implementation, can we all agree that this site will soon become near unusable as a content-finding platform without some type of ratings system?
I've posted something about this before, but MuseScore has been posting misleading advertisements about their sale prices for about a year now, and they've done it again with this Summer Sale. Last week I checked the annual Pro membership price because I had been considering working it into my budget for next month, and it was $49, as it has been for some time. So when I saw an advertisement for 60% off of a Pro membership, I reasonably assumed that the price for an annual Pro membership would be somewhere in the ballpark of $20, but of course, that wasn't the case. The sale price is $32.99, which is quite a way off from the purported price of $20 which would satisfy the "60% off" advertisement. The first time I looked into this, I concluded that the advertisements worked on a technicality that raised the "original" price of an annual Pro membership during the period of the sale. While the advertisement technically becomes true when this is considered, this is done without the knowledge of the consumer, as the original price, before or during the sale, is no longer listed anywhere on the advertisement, and with the intent to mislead. If MuseScore wants to hold a sale that's great, but the least that they could do is be honest about the amount of money that people will save. The reasonable fix would be to simply advertise 25% off of the original price, which is close to the 23% that is actually saved during this sale. All I have left to say is that I have been continuously disappointed in this manner and hope that MuseScore has the sense to fix the issue before I'm forced to become more aggressive in spreading awareness of the wool being pulled over our eyes.
How to change the color of note and word ?
So, I have been planning out my first symphony. I gave it the nickname "The War Symphony". It still isn't flushed out yet but I have decided to have it be a programmatic symphony with this movement structure:
Key: Bb major
Form: Sonata Form
Key: F minor
Form: Not decided on yet but I'm leaning towards ternary form
Key: Not decided on
Aspect: Battle again
Form: Scherzo and Trio
Key: Bb major
Form: Sonata-Rondo Form
The first movement is what I have flushed out the most out of all the movements so far in my plans so obviously, that will be the part I work on first. But I'm wondering, since I can't really afford a Pro membership(maybe a few years down the line I will be able to afford it but I can't currently), should I make a separate account to put my symphony score on once it is finished? And if so, should that account be just for my symphonies if I happen to want to compose more than 1 symphony?
Whenever I try to update my scores by trying to play the youtube audio over them it says there's a playback error and nothing loads. Is this happening for everyone or have I just done something wrong? This has never happened before.
But why do we have to make a youtube video in order to put the new audio over the musescore generated one? Why can't we just upload an mp3?
I added s score and it get stuck in state "Wait for your score to get processed".
I had this before with the same score. Then I opened a empty score, copied everything into and loaded that one, this worked. Now a made a few changes: added repeat barlines and adjusted positioning of the lyrics and get stuck again.
Any hints ?
I composed a new fugal piece today. It isn't a fugue completely, but has some properties of it. Please check out this piece and give your valuable feedback.
So a couple of people have asked for an extension for the first competition, and as we've only had a few of entries, I've decided to give you 1 week to complete your compositions. The one's we've had so far have been excellent, so keep 'em coming!
You now have until Saturday 25th May to complete your compositions. This is an extra 6 days, so be grateful. ;D
I will announce the winners on either Saturday on Sunday, depending on how long it takes me to mark them all. Well done to everyone who's entered so far!
He copies other people's work, and he puts in descriptions that fit anything, it's not funny that I look up 'tide pods' and then 'Crab Rave' shows up.
The first competition is here!
For this month, the theme will be "Relaxation", since summer is a relaxing time of year. Any pieces composed/arranged/transcribed should incorporate relaxation in some way.
Have fun, and good luck!
I think it would be a great (and helpful) feature to click on the username next to a ‘like’ on a comment or discussion and see a list of who liked it.
Hello, wonderful team behind Musescore!
Recently, it seems like the ordering for which scores show up was changed to something like "most popular first" - I really liked using my phone to quickly see new piano scores that were uploaded, and because I don't see a way to change the ordering, I can't really do that anymore.
It's great to see the current scores, it shows really high quality scores, but I'd like to be able to also just see whatever new stuff got added.
Thanks for all your hard work!
There's only 22 ohhh
Mine is my rondo for a sonata collab

When I play this scores with the synthesizer on the smartphone app, the tenor voice is one octave too low.
If I play it on the Computer with the synthesizer, this problem doesn’t occur. What can I do that the tenor is played on the right ocatve with the smartphone app ?
The grading key for the tenor ist he right one, so this is not the problem.
Auf unserem Schiff:
The wait is over! The first competition is here!
That didn't take long! Thank you to everyone who has joined the group in the last 24 hours or so. :D
So, I have a couple of things to talk about, the first is announcing the competition, the second is regarding Admins and Judges etc, so I want to quickly apologise for the lengthy post.
But let's start with the fun bit!
CCC#1 - "The Watzmann" by Caspar David Friedrich.
"The Watzmann" is a painting by artist Caspar David Friedrich, made in the mid 1820s. It is a fantastic landscape painting, and although I know nothing about art, I absolutely love this painting.
This challenge was inspired by a composition task I was given at school, where we had to write a piece of music inspired by a painting. I chose a different painting by Caspar David Friedrich, which inspired me to look up some more of his art to use for this competition.
So, the challenge is fairly simple: Write a piece of music inspired by this painting, "The Watzmann". I look forward to seeing what you can come up with.
A few quick rules/details:
1) You may use any ensemble of instruments.
2) The piece must be between 1.30 and 5 minutes long.
3) The piece must be original, not an arrangement.
You will be given a mark out of 10 for your piece, along with some feedback. You have until Sunday 19th May which gives you one month to complete the piece. I will announce the winners as soon as possible after that.
Admin / Judge
So, basically, if anyone would like to be an admin and judge in the competition, please message me. Your job will be to help me mark the scores, and make sure the group runs smoothly. Obviously, you won't be able to participate in any competitions which you help judge, so sorry about that. If no-one wants to, I can do it myself, but it would make things a lot easier for me, so message if you're willing to help. Thanks!
There. I apologise again for the long post. I'd never get away with this on RSA. :/
Thanks again to everyone who helped boost this group to 30 members yesterday. :D
I look forward to seeing all of your entries to the competition. Obviously you don't have to, but if you are entering, it would be helpful if you could just let me know in the comments. Have fun!
I recently updated my score last night, and it plays just fine on the safari site and on desktop. The app is the only platform that has this problem. I hear and see an outdated version of my score, and I can’t do anything to update it.
