hey very talented people (obviously not me)
The first contest in this group. Yayyyyy!
So, here's the description:
1. The music has to be gloomy and sad (I have STD (just kidding) )
2. 4/4 time
3. No key signature
4. Instrument: Piano
The Winner will be announced everywhere possible!
Send the file to my email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Hello I'm kinda new to piano I can play and read notes I am looking for some good not super hard pieces to play. Any thoughts?
The wait is over! The first competition is here!
That didn't take long! Thank you to everyone who has joined the group in the last 24 hours or so. :D
So, I have a couple of things to talk about, the first is announcing the competition, the second is regarding Admins and Judges etc, so I want to quickly apologise for the lengthy post.
But let's start with the fun bit!
CCC#1 - "The Watzmann" by Caspar David Friedrich.
"The Watzmann" is a painting by artist Caspar David Friedrich, made in the mid 1820s. It is a fantastic landscape painting, and although I know nothing about art, I absolutely love this painting.
This challenge was inspired by a composition task I was given at school, where we had to write a piece of music inspired by a painting. I chose a different painting by Caspar David Friedrich, which inspired me to look up some more of his art to use for this competition.
So, the challenge is fairly simple: Write a piece of music inspired by this painting, "The Watzmann". I look forward to seeing what you can come up with.
A few quick rules/details:
1) You may use any ensemble of instruments.
2) The piece must be between 1.30 and 5 minutes long.
3) The piece must be original, not an arrangement.
You will be given a mark out of 10 for your piece, along with some feedback. You have until Sunday 19th May which gives you one month to complete the piece. I will announce the winners as soon as possible after that.
Admin / Judge
So, basically, if anyone would like to be an admin and judge in the competition, please message me. Your job will be to help me mark the scores, and make sure the group runs smoothly. Obviously, you won't be able to participate in any competitions which you help judge, so sorry about that. If no-one wants to, I can do it myself, but it would make things a lot easier for me, so message if you're willing to help. Thanks!
There. I apologise again for the long post. I'd never get away with this on RSA. :/
Thanks again to everyone who helped boost this group to 30 members yesterday. :D
I look forward to seeing all of your entries to the competition. Obviously you don't have to, but if you are entering, it would be helpful if you could just let me know in the comments. Have fun!
Go ahead and tell us here! We’d love to see what you guys think would be fun!
MuseScore introduces mobile practice mode
Every day hundreds of thousands of people use MuseScore services for practicing music, learning scores or preparing for performances. The Catalog created by the MuseScore community is the biggest score library.
We’ve been recently putting a lot of effort into improving the product for performers, not only on the website but in the mobile app.
At the moment, our App processes scores the same way our desktop solution does. But mobile devices have their peculiarities (mainly because of the screen size and touch-interfaces). It’s not always convenient to read scores using our current mobile app, especially if users don’t want or don’t know how to manage more advanced app settings. Users have to turn pages all the time (even more often than when they use regular paper scores) if they’re using the Play mode. So, they can’t see the next measure when done playing the current one. Also, it’s not clear where to manage such settings as the metronome, tempo or transposing.
Taking all this into account, we’ve launched another update which is aimed at the global improvement of mobile apps for professional performers and students.
Please, welcome Practice Mode. Now you’re one click away from entering a special mode, aimed at simplifying the process of playing an instrument and learning new scores.
In this mode, users see scores in a "continuous view" shown in one line with perfect readable scaling applied. Simply by clicking the Play button, users hear the metronome intro which is followed by the convenient flow of notes. Users can always see what they’re playing, along with a couple of more measures that are coming up next.
On the same screen, users not only change the tempo, the key or turn the metronome on/off but also play the original sound of the instrument (to hear whether they’re playing it correctly).
This improvement is supposed to make the App more convenient to use, and really, get it on the next level. Now it’s becoming much easier and more comfortable to learn and perform scores from the huge MuseScore catalog.
At the moment, we’re looking for the App and the new mode beta-testers.
To join the beta-testers community, follow the link and click "Become a tester".
After we’ve released the next build supporting the new mode, you just need to install it, open any score and you’ll be immediately redirected to the needed mode. We really hope that this update will visibly improve your experience and help with the development of your musical skills.
We are open to any suggestions and appreciate your help with the development of the new mode. You’re welcome to join us!

P.S. Planned date for the first beta release of the feature - the next week.

The second most commented user is goes by the name 'ZachTMusic'
I think he used to be 'thebasscleffguy' but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I've been trying to find his comments because I've been trying to pass him for over 6 months and know he has been inactive, but I can't find a single comment of his in the groups he is a part of. Could someone direct me to a discussion he is in? or could you help me figure out why I can't see any comments he has posted? For all of the other top users even below him they've had enough comments for me to easily see it. When I search up the name ZachTMusic I only see the discussion asking who he is. could you all help me out?
Composition exercise by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski(1882-1937) given to his student.
It goes as follows:
16 bars divided into 4x4 bar segments
Tonic chord at the beginning
At bars 7/8 modulate to dominant(in major) or relative major(in minor)
In bars 9/10 write a sequence
In bars 11/12 write another sequence
In bars 13/14 thematic return should occur
In bar 16 coda
And at the bottom: "best subdominant, dominant and tonic, perfect cadence."
I recommend giving it a try.
I wanna know some lists of pieces that you all have played during your time in Band in School, and What are some pieces that you all have played with some of the most Infamous straight 16th note runs that last for more than 16 Bars in the Woodwind Parts in Band Pieces? I have one to start it off and it's Metroplex by Robert Sheldon, has anyone ever played this piece or anything just as bad like it?
G. B. Wanscher: Né'Alhru'unduun'yeh - Arrangement for Jay and Jhon's March Challenge
Keystring Composer: Spring - The Awakening
Congratulations guys! Both of these pieces were amazing!
G. B. Wanscher, I loved your piece. Personally, it captured a spring thunderstorm which is what I love. Excellent work.
Keystring Composer, your piece was amazing. I loved that magical spring feeling that you obviously captured. Amazing!
Keep up the great work guys!
G.B. Wanscher: Loved your peace! Although, the slow feeling didn't resonate with me with having a Spring feeling. Other than that it was great!
Keystring Composer: You captured a magical essence in your song! Loved it!
I'm relatively new to this software and I'm having difficulty creating an odd tuplet ratio in one of my bars.
I'm trying to input 20 notes in the space of 7 quarter notes (20:7 relation) in a 7/4 Bar, but for some reason I keep having trouble. Please help!
Does anyone know a way to get a good sounding suspended cymbal roll in Musescore? I've tried almost everything and it all sounds like garbage lol. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Mine is my rondo for a sonata collab
It seems with this version is impossible to add a score to my SongBook. I tried the two methods that worked in previous versions:
1. Open in Musescore (from Gdrive or any other cloud app).
2. Drag and drop via Airdrop from my Mac to my iPad.
In both cases, nothing happens (well, with Airdrop there is a small flash saying "copying", but nothing is copied).
I reinstalled the app from the Appstore, only to see my previous scores in my SongBook are gone...
Thanks a lot for your work!
It would be really nice as an admin, if we had a feature to search users in specific groups we admim. Maybe if there was a search bar on the members page or something.
This would be extremely useful though. I’ve been trying to clear spammers (weddings and such) In huge groups like Video Gamers, and Short Pieces For Piano.
If we could search a user, and then have the option to remove them or make them admin, that would be great. Because I’ve been really tired of just scrolling though page after page to hopefully find an account I’m looking for.
