Followers
We (Joseph and Hannah) have decided that every time we double in the number of followers (so right now we're at 5, so it'll be 10, 20, 40, 80, maybe throw in something for 100, 160, etc.) we will alternate posting an original composition to thank you! (It may or may not be very good. We're certainly not experts ;)

Ive been playing music myself for a fair while now but never really done much composing so im giving it a go.
I play mainly clarinet, guitar and a little piano so would love to see if some people who are more familiar with strings and musical composition can give me an idea of how this first piece ive tried to write is like.
So yeh any comments would be great
thanks.

How to make strings pizzicato
How can you make string instruments pizzicato?
Mashup
Having trouble figuring out a tune to Mashup with Kelly Clarkson's Piece by Piece. I think probably because I was trying to Mash Up Gaga's It Could Happen To You with it. But I can't seem to make the two work together other than transitioning from one to the other. Wanted to be able to mix the two. Not even sure if the two songs work together with the themes. Anyway, anyone have an idea? Appreciate some thoughts.
Flute Ensemble Music
My band teacher asked the people in my flute lesson to arrange/compose songs for our flute ensemble. We usually do trios and sometimes do quartets. Are there any good songs that I could arrange?
Ending a piece
Can anybody give me some more ideas on how to end some of my pieces. Because the endings I have are ok but I think they could be better.
This is one of the ones in particular that I think could be improved.

My string quartet - would appreciate advice
Hi all,
I recently posted my first attempt at a movement for string quartet: http://musescore.com/rpbouman/string-quartet-in-a-minor (videoscore: http://musescore.com/node/480266, youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3g0QgJarSE).
I would really appreciate comments from string instrumentalists, like
1) is it playable?
2) how hard is it?
3) is the notation (dynamics, pizzicato, arco etc) clear?
4) how does it sound? Would extra instruction be required to highlight important lines?
Thanks in advance, and kind regards
Roland
A simple method for improvising 2 and 3 part canons
@googlekopf (http://musescore.com/user/22621) introduced me to this short but extremely insightful videoseries on youtube on how to improvise Renaissance style canons. I encourage everyone to watch them all - it will cost you less than 15 minutes and your life will be better :)

The method presented is extremely simple and the result is guaranteed not to offend the ear. It might not be beautiful but it is at least a very good start, especially since you can literally improvise it.
I just tried it out myself and with just a few minutes I got this result:

Enjoy! And share your results as well :)
EDIT: Here's another background article that treats this method:

Auditions for The Musescore Virtual Orchestras
I want to start on a huge project, that requires the help of everyone! Much like Eric Witacres's Virtual Choir, I will be compiling recordings of a large number of people, into one track.
Auditions have started and will run through the 13th of June. The piece we will be performing is most likely going to be one of my original compositions and will be a huge undertaking.
As of right now, we are short of String players and Vocalists. If you are interested or would like to audition, the link is below and you can email me, at the email below.

Vulture Song: That's What Friends are For
Hey, I just saw this group and realized that it was essentially what I was looking for. If anyone's interested, I made a TTBB arrangement of the Vulture Song from the Jungle Book :)
Violin concerto:Secondmovement almost finished slow&fastsections
My entry in the post-romantic postBarber violin concerto stakes!I love the 2nd movement.
Still working on orchestrating the first movement which at 382 measures seems too short. It has 3 main themes in exposition but they are not developed are they?Old-fashioned sonata form doesn't have to be followed but I did want to have some guide for structuring the material. the recap comes with 1st subject repeated in F major instead of opening Gmajor. There was other material I wanted to repeat :maybe I will.It flows very well (the way I want it to)so maybe I should let it alone -it ain't a big post- romantic concerto- it's a small one .I like it very much .I have a theme for the finale but haven't felt like composing anything new! i would like some sophisticated listeners for it but I feel it flows so well maybe anyone would like it.
Notating for Beatboxing?
In a lot of my arrangements, I intend them to be performed by my 8 person a cappella group and our beatboxer. Is there any standard way to notate what I would like him to do, besides just going in with drums and renaming the line to Beatboxer? I'd be interested to see someone else's solution to this.
