[New Feature] New privacy settings and an option to limit score downloads

Hi everybody!

Our content contributors are Musescore's most valuable asset. And one of the most important and frequent issues that our contributors encounter are confidentiality and copyright protection.

Today I want to present two important updates that we have launched.

1. New privacy settings

Previously, Musescore.com had two privacy settings for scores: Private and Public.
Public scores were available to everyone. Private ones had limited access. However, they could be published with the help of embed player or shared with direct links to them. So basically, Private scores were only partially private. This is why these scores were subject to general rules, including copyright.

This is why we decided to change the old system. We renamed Private to Unlisted, and the new (100% private) setting is now called Private. The new Private scores can not be shared in any way. This setting is suitable if the only person who is going to work with the score is yourself. This setting fully ensures the privacy of your data.

2. A new Pro-feature: Prevent anybody from downloading your scores.

We noticed that the authors who post arrangements to Musescore.com often express a wish to prevent other users from downloading their scores. The reason behind this is their concern for plagiarism.

Starting today, Musescore.com allows authors to Prevent anybody from downloading their scores. This feature is only available to Pro users and works in a test mode. We hope that this change will improve our contributors' experience, and yet will not cause MuseScore.com to stop distributing scores.

We feel like it is necessary to notice that the scores that prohibit downloads are less interesting for users. Therefore, they may receive fewer views than similar scores without this restriction. So think twice before using this option. In the future, these scores will be separated from the others in the lists and search results, so that the user could quickly identify it without actually clicking on it.

If you face any issues with the new features, please makes sure to notify us in the comments.

Thank you for your attention!

What do you think about religion?

Coming from a Christian, I have mixed views. Religion is fine and dandy, but RELIGION KILLED JESUS. (And hundreds, maybe thousands, of others)

The Pharisees, who were religious leaders, felt Jesus was violating their religion. They killed him.

But religion has also molded much of the future for us (I don't think I said that right :P)
You know, prayer, reading Scriptures, meditating on it, that has helped me A LOT. Does that count as religion? I have no idea! So, I dunno.

I think religion is the pursuit of righteousness.

I think that religion is good, but discriminating people who don't follow it? Not good. It is good, but being too legalistic? Not good.
It's good, but humans messed it up.
For me, it's not religion that's important, it's relationship. With Jesus.
For me, being a Christian is not trying to pursue righteousness and religion, but a relationship with God.

What's your take? :P

(btw, I'm not separating Christianity and religion, but being religious and being Christian )

Also, thank you katiedoylemusic for pointing out that he indeed rose again, but that's besides the point

Funny stories that happened to you?

So, Phia had this posted, but she's gone and I'm trying to get this group active, so I'm asking the question again.

Also, I know this is a bad idea, but I'm going to choose another admin. So, your story that you post in this discussion, if you want to be an admin, must follow these rules:
1. It must be true, and has to have happened to you, not someone else.
2. It has to be written in proper English. In other words, "girl" can't be "gal", etc.
3. It has to actually be funny.
4. It can't contain anything inappropriate, profanity, etc.

If it goes against any of these rules, you will automatically be eliminated from the contest.
Also, I won't be very active until Sunday or Monday, so if you request to join the group, you may not get accepted until then, but the contest closes on the 30th, so you should still have time.

You can still post stories, even if you don't want to participate in the contest. Just, please, specify whether your story is for the admin contest or not.

Have fun!

Sound Not Playing

So I'm currently working on copying a piece that I made a sort of arrangement on from Flat.io onto Musescore but the "Violin" and "Cello" ensembles aren't playing any sound whenever I hit the play button to listen to it.

I've been trying to mess with the inspector and velocity settings but it hasn't done anything. Can someone kindly help out? Much appreciated if someone could.

Original score removed...

Your Copyright Claim Dispute does not work.
An *original* score of mine from 1994 was taken down. The claim said the work "is related to the work Valse Triste by Jean Sibelius."
You cannot be serious.
.The work, I. Jeu de Sons, is the first of six dance movements, and it written for 6 instrumentalists. It is not a waltz, nor is it even tonal. It features jarring rhythms, changing meters in a fast, obsessive, formal narration. The only "Valse Triste" it is related to is the second movement, named Valse Triste, which also does not resemble Sibelius.
The artwork, which was not cited, is cc by-sa 2.0 and is properly credited to Korean Modern Dance.
The complaint lists a "publisher" named "xxxxxxx" which is the name of a user here on MuseScore, whose bio indicates this score, of which I have the manuscript, was written before s/he was born.
I do realize you folks have your hands full with legal/copyright issues, but this is extremely frustrating and embarrassing to find your work has been removed (hidden) due to an incomprehensible complaint.
Is this based on one user's say so?

The Lion King

Ok Does anyone else notice how cruel the lion king is?Scar kills his BROTHER (let that settle in). Then They go and start singing "Hakuna Matata" where you need to forget everything you love after just seeing your dad die. I mean Come on!

Hakuna Matata!
What a distracting phrase
Hakuna Matata!
Makes you forget About Trauma!
It means to forget about
everything that you love!
It's our very own, Retirement plan!
Hakuna Matata!

Splitting certain sections

I'm still kinda new to Musescore, so...sorry.

Um, I'm unable to split the notes in the violin and viola sections. Like, putting a whole note on the bottom of a staff and a quarter note at the top of the same staff, something like that. And I don't really know how to add another instrument halfway into a song. So if someone could walk me through the basis of that, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you for reading this!
