Recently, Musescore.com users have noticed an increase in the number of scores blocked on the website. This is due to the requests of the copyright holders who own and control the rights to these songs. We fully understand your frustration and inconvenience, and we would like to tell you a few words about our attitude towards the situation and what we are doing to fix it.
Back in 2017, when Ultimate Guitar acquired Musescore, it was questionable whether Musescore was going to be allowed to continue its operations. Copyright holders, music trade associations and governments were aggressively working to shut down the website entirely.
However, because Ultimate Guitar had decades of experience in solving such problems and strong working relationships with right holders, it was confident that it could solve this problem. Ultimate Guitar created the concept of licensing tabs and felt that it could also solve the problem of licensing sheet music. Twenty years ago, right holders and governments were able to shut down almost every other guitar tab website, but Ultimate Guitar and its founder were able to accomplish something that was impossible - to make thousands of deals with songwriters and publishers to legalize Ultimate Guitar. Thanks to Ultimate Guitar, the guitar tablature market has become fully digital with every subsequent website following the model created by Ultimate Guitar.
After Ultimate Guitar acquired Musescore, we faced the necessity to once again negotiate license agreements with songwriters and music publishers. For the right holders, the market of scores is even more complex than the market of guitar tabs; there are many players who make money on score sales and are not ready to distribute them in an ad-supported model.
The current sheet music market has a simple model: either sell scores by the piece or grant access by subscription. This is why ad-supported access to scores often causes misunderstanding and rejection from the copyright owners. It’s just too innovative for the current market.
There are quite a lot of right holders and all of them have different attitudes towards the licensing of these rights. In some cases, it causes certain difficulties. Example: at this point, we have no right to publish scores related to certain popular films and some songs by a few major rock stars. There is one main reason for this, songwriters and publishers expect to be fairly paid for their songs, rewarded economically. Musescore must respect their position.
Right now we are actively negotiating with right holders, and we have made great progress. We have already reached agreements with almost 1500 music publishers, including almost all of the major music publishers, and every day we are working on licensing more content.
The biggest obstacle we have faced so far is our goal to keep the content free for download. We tried to find various solutions to this problem, but unfortunately, all options related to the free distribution of content are problematic for the copyright holders and artists. It’s the main reason for scores to get blocked.
This is why from now on the option to download scores in any format is no longer free.
We, as a company, strongly promote and support the open digital world and the free distribution of information. But we also respect the right of the artists for their work and livelihood. Without songwriters and artists, there is no music.
Why do we have to take this step? First of all, it will bring us closer to the model to which the current market is accustomed. At the same time, we will still have very flexible conditions for working with content. For example, the fact that we are the only ones who give access to digital files, which was and still is our most popular "feature".
Among other things, this step will reduce the amount of plagiarism and unfair downloads of your scores on the website.
We will continue to work with the right holders, and try to achieve more favorable license terms and hope that the current state of things will not be final.
This step will allow us to speed up the negotiation process and keep your work safe. We also hope to unblock the scores that have been blocked from the website earlier.
Author's original works and compositions from Public Domain
At the moment, unfortunately, we do not have a trustworthy tool to distinguish songs under copyright from songs available for distribution. It's a big problem we're working on. The value of our product lies in such scores and the authors of this content are very important for us. The current situation promises to be a major boost for development. We made a lot of effort recently to improve the catalog/listing of the website. We will now focus on working with independent authors and users who work with Public Domain music. We will release updates in the near future that will allow to open original scores to everyone.
We ask you to be patient with this process. Most likely we will need a lot of help from the community in order to be able to move forward and contribute to the free distribution of digital music in every way possible.
I know that here on MuseScore there are LGBTQ+s and people that believe in a Biblical view of sexual identity. I guess if this debate gets too fiery the admins can delete it, but I'm not so much curious as what you believe as why you believe it. What are your reasons for one stance versus the other?
Inspired the game over at MyAnimeList (http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1518596), let's count upwards and see how far we can go until a count breaker (listed below) comments and makes us start over.
(The title is kept for historical significance. Count breakers were Pro users with 200+ followers in Season 1)
- A player may only post once every 24 hours** or after another player has posted, whichever comes first.
- A post by a count breaker (listed below) restarts the count (that post is 0).
- The count must go up in order (no missing numbers).
- A counter who holds the last post of a run of at least 10 becomes a place holder.
- A counter can only hold one place at a time. If they win a run that is higher than their record on the board, their record is updated; otherwise, the run is ignored and not placed.***
- Top 3 place holders become count breakers next season (this includes staff).
- The season restarts every 12 pages.
- A run is allowed to spill into the next season, up to a maximum of one page. The new count breakers start as soon as the count is broken or when the count reaches the second page, whichever comes first.*
- MuseScore staff (those with the "staff" badge) count as normal, but they can additionally nullify a count breaker's 0 post and turning it into a regular count post by posting immediately after it (i.e. with no post in between). The staff's post should be x+2, where x is the number in the post immediately before the count was broken.****
* Introduced in Season 3
** Introduced in Season 6
*** Introduced in Season 7
**** Introduced in Season 10
As a courtesy, if your post is wrong because someone posted before you, edit your post instead of deleting it.

I'll start: 1
What is it?
So, Phia had this posted, but she's gone and I'm trying to get this group active, so I'm asking the question again.
Also, I know this is a bad idea, but I'm going to choose another admin. So, your story that you post in this discussion, if you want to be an admin, must follow these rules:
1. It must be true, and has to have happened to you, not someone else.
2. It has to be written in proper English. In other words, "girl" can't be "gal", etc.
3. It has to actually be funny.
4. It can't contain anything inappropriate, profanity, etc.
If it goes against any of these rules, you will automatically be eliminated from the contest.
Also, I'm not very active on the weekends, so if you request to join the group, you may not get accepted until I get back on, but the contest closes on the 23th of September, so you should still have time.
You can still post stories, even if you don't want to participate in the contest. Just, please, specify whether your story is for the admin contest or not.
Could use some help if anyone is willing! I need a good playback recording of this piece to prepare for publishing. Unfortunately, I cannot pay, but I will give credit once this is on YouTube by posting your channel or your Musescore profile. I don't have Finale/Sibelius, or Noteflight which is why I'm asking lol.
Tell me all about your day! Nothing interesting happened to me, So im curious how YOU guys are!
This game is a number game... obviously. Girls will try to count up, boys will try to count down (they can even go into the negatives if need be if girls begin extremely poorly). We start at 0. If you are transgender, agender, non-gender, etc., just pick male or female and stick with it for this game to lessen the confusion. No posting twice in a row.
EDIT:When girls reach 200, we will have to count down, and guys will count up.
EDIT 2.0: GIRLS ARE COUNTING DOWN NOW..
EDIT 2.5: Once girls reach -200 or guys reach 300, we will reverse directions again to where guys count down and girls count up.

And so on... for ever and ever...
I have close to no clue how blending different instruments should work, I also don't have much idea (other than the trumpets) how difficult this piece would be.
Make sure to follow my main account (PIEridot with no numbers after it) in case I get a pro account.
I won't need this whole group if that happens.
[Update - I have a pro account]
When I know I'm getting into a debate that I won't want to be in...

Why on earth are there little scroll bars under each thumbnail on my profile page? Scrolling them (for what it's worth) brings up blank space.
Sup homie just wanted to see if anyone else knew that if you speed up the song that plays during your genocide run you'll get flowey's theme???
this looks fishy. If this is truly a bot group I'd recommend stopping this kind of thing before it is unleashed full scale and create a time lock after an account is created for posting discussions and creating groups.
Maybe also some sort of confirmation system when creating an account like CAPTCHA? Can bots get past that?
in my opinion browsing and searching for sheet music is very unpleasant.
There are just a few too basic options to filter, no advanced search or a sort by name option.
Inside groups there is nearly no option to search, sort or filter.
I'm looking for things like "multi tag filtering", "regular expression like searching" or sorting by name, complexity, rating...
As there is more and more sheet music getting uploaded, this is getting more important each day. Even today I feel a bit like lost in a moutain of sheet music.
Is there any improvement planed concerning this topic?
