Does anyone know some awesome fast-paced drill songs?
Hey, drum corps fans! I had an interesting idea. In light of all these challenges on MuseScore I thought of this game for all my current and aspiring arranger/transcriber/composer friends in this group. Drum corps is one of the easiest ensembles for amateurs to write for (no hate) so this is also a good gateway into composing if you know your stuff. I don't know squat about real music theory--never taken classes and rarely been taught any. I just have an affinity for it (and you can too!).
The idea is that you get some categories and you write a segment of a show based on those categories. Then everyone guesses what those restraints were and whoever gets it correct first gets to do the next round. Here's some comprehensive rules:
-Go to www.random.org and generate (this is called a "roll") a set of numbers (will elaborate if this carries through). That set of numbers dictates the following categories:
1.) Time period (old school, Bb era, etc.)
2.) Corps style (Bluecoats, Spirit, etc.)
3.) Show section (closer, ballad, etc.)
4.) Composer/Genre/Piece (Eric Whitacre, La Vie en Rose, etc.)
5.) Strange twist (optional, just for fun)
You pick THREE of the FIVE categories to follow. If you get a combination that reeaally doesn't work together or you get completely stumped what to write, you are allotted ONE re-roll of any category. This can only be done within the first 36 hours of the round (between 6:00PM (EST) Friday and 6:00AM (EST) Sunday). The remaining two categories you may choose to ignore or you can also do them for fun.
-THE SCORE MUST USE THE STOCK SOUNDFONT (FluidR3?). People won't want to find and download your special snowflake soundfont so they can listen. MuseScore is notation software, not specifically playback software. This will be a challenge in it of itself. You MAY write in Finale if you so choose; just know that it sounds very different with FluidR3. Also know that the conversion is more than just exporting/importing a compressed XML file.
-You have 7 full days, starting at 6:00PM (EST) on a Friday and ending at 5:59PM (EST) the next Friday. This includes writing time AND guessing time for the listeners. You can finish the piece in 4 hours or 6.5 days. The less time you take, the longer time they have to guess (and vice versa).
-When you are ready for the guessing to begin, title it whatever you'd like, upload it, and add it to the group. Start a discussion in this group announcing your completion: provide the title, link to the score, and the three categories you chose to accomplish. If you did more than three categories you still MUST choose THREE for the people to guess and reveal the extra one(s) you accomplished.
-Let the first person that guesses correctly know that they got it right by replying to them in the thread (make sure to keep an eye out on the thread so you don't miss it). Try and reply closest to 6:00PM (EST) on Friday as you can. Include their username, timestamp of when they guessed, and the results.
-Said person gets to do the next round. The following Friday at 6:00PM (EST) they will repeat this process. After you go, you are not allowed to guess the next round (to try and avoid two or three people going over and over).
-If no one correctly guesses, it defaults to the first person to guess at least two categories correctly. If none, first person to guess at least one category. If none, first person to guess at all. The show must go on.
-If there is a correct guess, the person who wrote the score may also submit at new "strange twist" to add to the list if they would like. If there was no correct guess, this rule does not apply.
-We would use the honor system heavily with this game. You cannot roll your numbers before Friday at 6:00PM (EST). You cannot "team up" and cheat so you can get the next round. You cannot collaborate. You cannot plagiarize. Use common sense. Be a nice, humble, self-accountable person :)
Notice I never said "winner" in this post. The goal is not a "winning" piece or to "be the winner" by spewing your knowledge everywhere. The goal is to have some fun writing, guessing, learning, and being a self-accountable and knowledgeable individual in the most humble way you can.
I am not an admin of this group so I don't know if I can even suggest this game. If you fans like this idea, let me know by replying. If the admin(s) of this page don't like it being here but I get lots of positive feedback I may start a separate group and enlist another admin or two to make sure it runs smoothly. I would love your replies and criticism as well :)
I'm currently working on Spartacus. This is a tough show! If anyone wants to help, please message me.
is anyone else writing out one night by the rapper lil yachty
I realize there is likely a discussion of this elsewhere but decided to have my own discussion to keep track of issues. you are welcome to add your own comments of course.
notice that some compositions created in the older version don't open in the newer one, says they are corrupted. I realize my music is very corrupt but musescore could have been a little nicer about it all. that is just plain mean.
notice that the violin sounds a lot better, more pleasant ( I won't say it sounds more like a real violin being played because then it would sound worse, if I was playing anyway)
but also notice that the overall sound seems very quiet. I have to turn the computer volume up really high. and then if I forget and play something with the older version, I am deafened. yowza!
wonder how music made with this new version plays at the online musescore site, or does the sound balance get messed up as it does now…
haven't found how to do some things… seems they changed the layout a bit.
I know this looks a lot like a Pokémon Ranger quest, but I assure those of you who know what I'm talking about, it's not. I just need help on making a score for something (you'll never know until it's done). How the heck does one get the metal wind chimes to work in Musescore (P.S. I love how on their own website, it shows up as an incorrect word). It sounds a lot easier than it is, so please help me. I don't know if nobody truly knows how to do it, or if I am just completely clueless.
Based on this playlist you must create a medley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly_FAIOPH0Y&list=RDly_FAIOPH0Y#t=0
It is due April 28,2016 9:00 pm
I was wondering if anyone had messed around the Master Effects settings, and the Zita1 effect, to see if they could get their instruments to sound a little more realistic? I mean the MIDI's aren't bad, but it'd be nice to get as close to a realistic sound as possible! Or has anyone just messed with the default settings and found that they like a certain setup?
So I'm writing, a show called "The Sky". The music I want to use for the movements are,
Theme from "Rio" by John Powell
"Joy" by Frank Ticheli
Theme from "How to Train your Dragon" by John Powell
I just have a quick question, should I use Joy or Joy Revisited? Thanks!
The following is a synopsis of an opera about the DYDD, Downy Yellow Dingle Dork for those of you who still do not know. (see http://chinadoll123.wix.com/dingle-dork1 and https://musescore.com/groups/the-downy-yellow-dingle-dork-extinction-group and also https://musescore.com/user/266756). Any suggestions or comments are welcome (other than "don't do it") and anyone who would be willing to collaborate or otherwise help in any degree on this project is most welcome. Although it may have taken Rossini only 13 days (supposedly, I also heard 40 days) to write the "Barber of Seville," I am no Rossini of course and this project, if it ever gets done (no, don't start off negatively! be positive) will likely take more like 13 months to put together (being realistic, no?) Anyway, I welcome any comments as always. Thank you, music lovers.
Synopsis of the dydd opera
An opera in Three acts
Patterned after the magic flute
Themes are right to life, preservation, tolerance, freedom
Overture- a medley of the opera tunes
We see the members of the secret audobon discussing the dydd. They sing of the reasons why the dydd must be made extinct and of their plans for its capture and extermination. This should be done very comically.
We then meet some isolated folks who want to save the dydd. These folks each have their own melody and they meet and sing a medley of their individual tunes.
They decide to form the knughts of dingle dork. This introduces the theme of the knughts and their motto.
We get a fleeting glimpse of the shadow of the dydd which introduces its theme briefly. Then we hear its cawing mocking laugh as it flees the pursuing secret audobon
Act one ends with the knughts singing on one side and the secret audobon singing on the pther side their competing themes and aims.
The act ends with both groups expressing frustration at not being able to capture it and we agin hear the dydd’s cawing laugh as the curtain closes.
This act begins with the chase music as the secret audobon sets its traps and then falls into their own traps.
We then get introduced to the dydd and it sings its tune.it sings about its life and how important and beautiful it is although it Is lonely since there are no other dydds. It can also sing its signature theme.
The knughts then chase after the dydd and they do many comical face plants and capture a dydd doll.
The dydd has many adventures in its travels to other lands. Th act ends with its discovery of pacificus and its capture by the Inhabitants.
The third act is the resolution of everything.
As the act opens, we learn about pacificus and the dydd meets a female dydd and sings its love song. It realizes its importance in the world through discovering its history in the land of pacificus.
Meanwhile the secret audobon and the knughts have a showdown and manage to capture each other in their traps.
The act ends with everyone in traps or tied up and the dydd comes center stage and proudly sings its victory song. The female dydd cones out to join it and they sing a duet. Then all the baby dydds join them onstage and everyone sings the grand fanale.
post your silliest most fun original composition to the Laugh Silly Group and keep us all laughing hilariously. Anything goes. No deadline yet, let's so who is brave enough or silly enough to enter. don't worry, no one will laugh at you, they will just laugh at the brilliant humor and fun of your compositions. Remember, there is no difference between silly and serious in music. they both begin with the letter "S" after all for goodness sake.
elephants_give_me_drinks reportedly already wants to be in this contest with the wonderful composition "One, Two, Three, Four" so it is officially now entered. Listen to it at https://musescore.com/user/561466/scores/383781
So, enter now at Laugh Silly, https://musescore.com/groups/laugh-silly the home of all of musescore's silly, nonsensical, and ridiculous compositions (I just made that up, it might not be true, likely isn't, ok, it is a complete fabrication)
