Reached composers block

So, you know how I have been working on the 50 follower special composition right? Well, I am 2/3 of the way through it and even include a short bit of canon in the composition. But after this canonic moment, I can't seem to make further progress. I know that I want to go back to G major by means of a plagal cadence(which would require me to substitute C major for C#°) and that I want to end the piece with a plagal cadence.

I have been having this composers block for about a week now. I usually embrace it and just move on to composing something else, but this is a 50 follower special composition that I have been working on.

despising Musecore 3

There are days when I absolutely hate Musescore 3. Sure, it is nice that things get automatically spaced in the score so nothing overlaps, so wow gee wiz, uh, isn't that just how it should be? What I hate is that they seem to have gone out of their way to make things more difficult compared with Musescore 2. They seem to have randomly changed things that didn't need changing just to make it frustrating for the use. It used to be easy to change the volume of a single note or chord in a score. But now, once I finally figure out how to do it, Musescore manages to hide it from me so then I have to start all over trying to find out how to do it again. Why!!!? It used to be easy to see the note in inspector and then modify the volume, but now, where the blazing biscuits is it?? And why is it impossible to find in the manual? Ultimately, there is no advantage to Musescore 3 other than the spacing thing. So, I should do everything in Musescore 2 and then when it is ready to be put online, open it with Musescore 3. Just be sure to give it a different name because once you open it in Musescore 3, they won't let you go back to Musescore 2. Oh, no. Why would they make it **&&**& easy?!!!!! And I paid good money for this kind of frustration????????!

Need help finding solo piece for Flute!

Hey all! I'm going to audition for my local junior orchestra in the fall, and need some advice... here are the requirements:

  • A solo or piece of your choosing that fully demonstrates your finest playing, such as a piece you are working on in lessons or a piece you performed with your school
  • A classical concerto for your instrument of your choice
  • Major scales and arpeggios up to four flats and sharps
  • Melodic minor scales and arpeggios up to four sharps and flats
  • Sight-reading


I have the last four down, I just need help finding a solo piece. If any of you have any suggestions, i'm in need!

How to link a YouTube video to your score

Before musescore came up with the way to directly upload custom audio, going through Youtube was the only way to be sure the piece you post on musescore had the sound that you want others to hear. I have used that method. It is not as simple as uploading custom audio and does require a few more steps. Going through Youtube should work with the mp3 that you get from your buddy. The way to do it is as follows:
1. First you need a way to make a video. I have Movavi Video Editor.
I import my mp3 sound into the video editor. I also need a jpg picture to go with the mp3. Then, I click on export video
as an mp4.
2. Next I upload my mp4 to youtube at https://www.youtube.com/upload
and publish the uploaded video at youtube for public viewing. Be sure to copy the link they give you for your
youtube video.
3. Then upload your score at musescore. At this point, it won't have the right sound.
4. When you look at your uploaded score online at musescore score, you need to click on the three dots on the upper right of the page. This brings up a dropdown menu. Click on "manage audio sources." Click on this and a page comes up that gives you the option to "add an audio track." Click on this.
5. A page comes up that prompts you for your youtube URL, so enter it.
6. This should attach your Youtube video to the score. Be sure click on save at the bottom. You also have the option of having the video shown or hidden with just the audio sound associated with your score.
7. Now when you look at your score on musescore, it should indicate that it has a video attached. My https://musescore.com/user/127542/scores/5536063 has a youtube video attached, for instance.
8. And if all these steps aren't enough, guess what, sometimes it doesn't work and you need to start all over again.
I know it is cumbersome but as far as I know, this is really the only way to make sure your listeners hear that mp3 quality sound when they look at your score.

Looking for Collaboration

Hello everyone, 

I am currently a battery and front ensemble writer, with an emphasis on battery, who is searching for someone who may be in need of one. I'm looking into collaborating with a front ensemble/wind writer to create indoor or marching shows respectively. This can be done for the sole purpose of improving writing/arranging skills or for serious projects, of which is completely welcomed. 

I also have access to Sibelius, if there are any users who would like to use an alternative notating software.

Almost reached 50 follower milestone

If you don't know already, I am now almost at 50 followers. Currently I have 39 followers so just 11 more and I will have reached the 50 follower mark. I had maybe like 4 followers 2 years ago. So clearly, I'm doing something right. My most recent score called The Storm just brought me 2 more followers. I suppose they followed me hoping to someday see the entire suite that I plan on The Storm being a part of. That suite I call Weather Music. Maybe I should compose another part of the suite for that 50 followers mark, upload it when I reach 50 followers, and then whenever I have finished the suite, upload it in its entirety.

Update 1: 6/18/2019

Oh my goodness, 4 followers in a single day. That is a record for me, I am now at 43 followers. I don't know if the follower milestone or finishing the composition will come first. If the follower count does come first, that's fine. I'm not pushing myself to finish the 50 follower composition.

Update 2: 6/19/2019

Wow, 5 followers in 1 day. I don't think I will finish my 50 follower composition before I reach 50 followers. Often my composition process is slow, so don't be surprised if a week has passed and I still haven't finished the composition yet. I will get it done when I get it done. I emphasize quality over quantity with my compositions.

Update 3: 6/24/2019

I'm just 1 away from reaching the 50 followers mark. As for the composition, I'm about halfway through composing it.

I need Help w/ percussion

I am composing a marching band show just for fun and need help with the percussion parts. I am struggling. I am a baritone player so i have no idea how to write for percussion/ drumline.

Note: The weird 32nd notes on the rail arent supposed to be played that way its written like that to sound like a susspended cymbal roll. Thanks

Help needed from flutists/flautists(?)

Hi, I was wondering, are there any flute players that have Mark Karen’s ‘The Flute Etudes’ book? I’m trying to help out a friend after hearing that the flute etudes used by TMEA are among some of the hardest. I know that most of them that were selected by the author are in public domain, but I don’t know which ones. If you could tell me which etudes are used in the book, that’d be greatly appreciated.

Can a bassoonist help me here?

So after listening to Bach's Cello Suites and his Flute Partita, I figured I would do a similar thing but for bassoon. The fact that I am writing for bassoon is partly why I decided to start with an overture instead of a prelude(French overture if you want to get into the specific type based on speed pattern). That isn't to say that the slow section won't include some fast 16ths but I have been adding long notes as I see fit.

I only have 13 measures so far, so I'm not thinking of uploading the piece yet. But I can only use the singing method for the alto range and low soprano pretty much(my natural soprano has gotten limited and squeaky over the years, and not because I overused my soprano so unlike before where I could easily sing up to a high G in my soprano, I can barely get a high C out) which means that as soon as the notes are in the range of a bass voice or a low tenor, I can't use the singing method to check for slur placement at all and in the soprano range, it isn't going to be all that accurate(Not that I would have the bassoon going into a soprano range all that often anyway).

And I myself do not play bassoon, partly because the instrument, even at beginner quality is like $3000 worth. Whereas my beginner quality flute, I got for less than $100. That is quite the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive woodwind at beginner quality, excluding auxiliaries.

If I did play bassoon at an advanced level, I could just write down the notes that I want without worrying about slurs, play the notes as written, and see where I run out of breath and how I naturally phrase it. The breath and phrasing together would determine where to put the slurs. But because I don't play bassoon, and I don't have a friend who I know is a bassoonist, this method won't work either.

So if my vocal range is limited pretty much to alto and low soprano making the singing method not viable for bassoon and I don't play bassoon, nor know a friend who plays bassoon, how am I supposed to determine where to put the slurs in my Bassoon Suite?
