This group is meant as a gathering place for aficionados of Zappa and other related groups. Share transcriptions. Share arrangements. Talk about mustaches (and other stuff). Try to share new stuff (just make sure it's really good). Don't get hurt.
Approved people to share transcriptions/arrangements of (subject to change):
Frank Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai, George Duke, Captain Beefheart, and Jean-Luc Ponty.
I want to do a new arrangement for my Jazz Band, and I'm looking at (who else?) Snarky Puppy. I looking at Bardis, Skate U, Tarova, Quarter Master, Semente, Young Stuff, and Xavi. Which should I do?
Hi! Some of you may recognize me, I've been involved with jazz and MuseScore education online forever, but for whatever reason, it only just occurred to me to turn here for music to play :-).
I direct a big band of adult amateur musicians. We have a library full of the typical charts by Nestico, Mantooth, etc. I figure some people here have probably created some really great music for conventional (5+4+4+4) big band instrumentation and spent time getting the part to look and all so they are all ready to print and perform, but don't have access to a big band. If that's you, hit me up! If your music is for that format and the parts are in good readable shape, we'd love to try them out! Respond here with links - whether your own music or others' you think we should check out. My band isn't the Basie band and won't sound like that :-), but I'm happy to make a recording of us doing our best!
This isn't a competition, although who knows, maybe some day we'll organize one.
Mine is How Great thou Art and Great is Thy Faithfulness and The Love of God come in a close second.
For those who don't know, I'm one of the admins for this group. The original owner of this group got their account terminated and the group ownership was given to a different user, @EthanHarris. When he got ownership of this group, he knew almost nothing about jazz and needed some help with running the group and teaching other non-jazz users in this group the different concept of jazz theory. I volunteered to help him with that, so he granted me admin permissions. I proceeded to write out two lessons on the discussions here before life caused me to completely abandon the lessons and leave this group stranded.
Hopefully within the next couple of days, I'm gonna start trying to revive these lessons as either a weekly or bi-weekly thing here. I will still be keeping the old lessons available, but every week or two, I'll be adding a lesson to a new discussion that I'll add once the first new lesson comes out next week. The lessons will most likely be a pdf I will write out discussing whatever topic that lesson focuses on.
I plan on rewriting the first lessons I did here, but of course afterwards I'll need to figure out what the next topics should be. Any suggestions on what topics I should cover in these lessons would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all and take care of yourselves.
It is a tribute to my deceased grandfather and was made on the same day of his death. Hope you enjoy it.
i've been meaning to ask this for a while, but what is patrick doing in the group icon?
