Hello! Mark and I have finalized the brass parts for the ballad of our original show, 2 + 2 = 5. The ballad we've chosen is The Hymn of Acxiom by Vienna Teng, as we believe it fits the theme of the show - George Orwell's "1984" - perfectly.

If you are unfamiliar with the project, here is a quick summary:
Mark and I plan to have as many of you submit recordings of yourselves playing through the show as we can. We will then compile the recordings into one large file, and place it over virtual drill that Mark is writing, to create a virtual drum corps of sorts. If you'd like to record, here's all the info you'll need!

1.) Parts
You can play through as many parts as you'd like. In fact, we would much appreciate it if you did! (For example, if you play the trumpet, it will be better for the end result if you record and submit all three trumpet parts, rather than just doing one) Of course, you don't have to do this! Mark and I will be listening through each recording of the trumpet soloist's part, and picking the one we think would best benefit the overall recording.
2.) Recordings
We would prefer if you submit one large (3-ish minute) recording, but if you find it difficult to play through the part(s) in one sitting, please refer to the recording guide below!

3.) Recording Guide
Recording One: Beginning to Letter D
Recording Two: Letter D to Letter F (Trumpets, include two measure pick-up)
Recording Three: Letter F to Letter I
Recording Four: Letter I to the end

Again, we'd much prefer your recording be from the beginning to the end, to simplify our own work, but we decided to include this in case some need the breaks in between. Trumpets obviously don't need a recording one/four, as they don't play at these points. Please play the part at the exact tempo that's listed. This can easily be done by playing along with the recording (preferably while wearing a headset!).
4.) Submitting
If you have recorded the entirety of the ballad at once, submit an MP3/MP4 file with this name as the format:

Help needed from flutists/flautists(?)

Hi, I was wondering, are there any flute players that have Mark Karen’s ‘The Flute Etudes’ book? I’m trying to help out a friend after hearing that the flute etudes used by TMEA are among some of the hardest. I know that most of them that were selected by the author are in public domain, but I don’t know which ones. If you could tell me which etudes are used in the book, that’d be greatly appreciated.

Almost reached 50 follower milestone

If you don't know already, I am now almost at 50 followers. Currently I have 39 followers so just 11 more and I will have reached the 50 follower mark. I had maybe like 4 followers 2 years ago. So clearly, I'm doing something right. My most recent score called The Storm just brought me 2 more followers. I suppose they followed me hoping to someday see the entire suite that I plan on The Storm being a part of. That suite I call Weather Music. Maybe I should compose another part of the suite for that 50 followers mark, upload it when I reach 50 followers, and then whenever I have finished the suite, upload it in its entirety.

Update 1: 6/18/2019

Oh my goodness, 4 followers in a single day. That is a record for me, I am now at 43 followers. I don't know if the follower milestone or finishing the composition will come first. If the follower count does come first, that's fine. I'm not pushing myself to finish the 50 follower composition.

Update 2: 6/19/2019

Wow, 5 followers in 1 day. I don't think I will finish my 50 follower composition before I reach 50 followers. Often my composition process is slow, so don't be surprised if a week has passed and I still haven't finished the composition yet. I will get it done when I get it done. I emphasize quality over quantity with my compositions.

Update 3: 6/24/2019

I'm just 1 away from reaching the 50 followers mark. As for the composition, I'm about halfway through composing it.

This is a nice app. I use it to tune my guitar. It’s very helpful as accurate. This app also has options to tune other instruments like a violin. And for I think $10, you can get these little fun guitar chord related games, that help teach you the guitar.

Overall, great app. And I highly recommend it.

Now the member count has capped out at around 1 member per day, BUT this is a random group, and I didn't really expect it to be this active.

This is how all high school Clarinet sections are.

Clarinet 1, 2, and 3 all play as separate sections. The Clarinet 1 section always has all of the try hards on that row. They can never really play together with each other because they are always trying to show that they can play their parts better than all of us sitting behind them. Whenever there is a really technical part (With lots of INK! LOL!) they are the ones who are NEVER afraid to try it, while playing confidently at full volume. Basically these are the only players you can hear out of the entire section for most of the piece. The Clarinet 2 and 3 sections are more unified than the first. We are the players that sit behind and we are the first to be ok with not knowing how to play our part and pulling our clarinets down and letting the firsts handle those difficult parts. The ONLY thing these two rows can do better than first is stay playing together. This is because before even discussing, it is understood that when it comes to the difficult parts we all collectively REST. while they continue. You can never hear us when we are playing by ourselves, and you won't ever hear us playing over the Clarinet 1 row like we are supposed to, because we are always unsure of how our parts are supposed to sound.

Can a bassoonist help me here?

So after listening to Bach's Cello Suites and his Flute Partita, I figured I would do a similar thing but for bassoon. The fact that I am writing for bassoon is partly why I decided to start with an overture instead of a prelude(French overture if you want to get into the specific type based on speed pattern). That isn't to say that the slow section won't include some fast 16ths but I have been adding long notes as I see fit.

I only have 13 measures so far, so I'm not thinking of uploading the piece yet. But I can only use the singing method for the alto range and low soprano pretty much(my natural soprano has gotten limited and squeaky over the years, and not because I overused my soprano so unlike before where I could easily sing up to a high G in my soprano, I can barely get a high C out) which means that as soon as the notes are in the range of a bass voice or a low tenor, I can't use the singing method to check for slur placement at all and in the soprano range, it isn't going to be all that accurate(Not that I would have the bassoon going into a soprano range all that often anyway).

And I myself do not play bassoon, partly because the instrument, even at beginner quality is like $3000 worth. Whereas my beginner quality flute, I got for less than $100. That is quite the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive woodwind at beginner quality, excluding auxiliaries.

If I did play bassoon at an advanced level, I could just write down the notes that I want without worrying about slurs, play the notes as written, and see where I run out of breath and how I naturally phrase it. The breath and phrasing together would determine where to put the slurs. But because I don't play bassoon, and I don't have a friend who I know is a bassoonist, this method won't work either.

So if my vocal range is limited pretty much to alto and low soprano making the singing method not viable for bassoon and I don't play bassoon, nor know a friend who plays bassoon, how am I supposed to determine where to put the slurs in my Bassoon Suite?
