take the time to compose something silly
2016 begin again another year, more silliness, musescore discussions, contests, laughs, and serious music
We have lots of contests and tend to write fun and silly original compositions. We try to have a contest every month or so. Contest currently open include:
The Musical Signature Contest ending Jan 15-create a composition based on your name, a sort of cryptogram, assigning notes to letters. It's fun, try it.
New Year contest ending Jan 31- write a composition celebrating the new year just for fun. It can be serious or silly.
Love Song contest ending in mid February- write an original love song. It can have lyrics if you want and can be serious or silly.
March Madness contest ending April 1 appropriately- Anything goes for this contest, be creative and silly and wild and totally mad (in a nice way). Everyone welcome.
We also have a Film Music contest ending April 30. That should be fun.
Solo Instrument contest ending June 30- write an original composition for the instrument of your choice. It can be unaccompanied or with piano or orchestra if you like or, what the hey, it can be a duet or quartet or 50 harmonica band piece just so it focuses on one shining instrument.
Now, we have a Halloween Music Contest ending Oct 31 of course and already have some great entries. So join in the fun.
We also have a guess the melody contest in which you can try to name the composer and title of music from an arrangement we put together. And we have a Famous composer challenge in which you can match up the names of composers to brief descriptions about the composer. All in fun.
Members are welcome to start their own contests or discussions in this group as well.
The administrator, Chinadoll, writes comments to every composition submitted to the group and tries to include encouragement and positive critical advice or suggestions. Anyone is welcome to join.
Visit our websites at http://chinadoll123.wix.com/laugh-silly to vote for the best music composition and composer in our group and also visit the DYDD site for pure silliness and mayhem featuring the adventures of the Downy Yellow Dinge Dork, a nearly (some would say, hopefully soon) extinct bird http://chinadoll123.wix.com/dingle-dork1

Get involved in submitting MuseScore versions of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas as a way to feature MuseScore in several media outlets, such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Facebook and others.
A great way for teachers to help their students learn notation, and for others who are bored and have nothing else to do.
In the discussion area where the Sonatas are listed, simply choose a Sonata that has not already been "taken" and submit a post stating: "Sonata No. _____, Opus ____ has been taken."
Then work on notating your chosen sonata as a MuseScore file and upload it to this group when completed. Each movement should have a separate file.
Others can help (if they don't want to notate) by working on playback or video scores for these pieces once they are uploaded.
By joining, you agree that the piece you notate can be uploaded by others with whatever corrections or additions are necessary for playback and video score purposes. So the same score may be uploaded by several people who are working on the final product.
Discussions may center around questions and answers regarding notation, playback and where/how to post these works for easy access on other sites. This is a group effort, but those who notate may place their name on the work, or remain anonymous.
All works must include the opus number and the composer as follows:
Sonate (Beethoven's sonatas use the German spelling)
No. ______, Opus _______ (or Nr. __________, Opus __________)
Ludwig van Beethoven
Be careful regarding copyright issues and use scores that are public domain. Even though the music itself is public domain, certain printed/published scores are not. Generally, fingering and some dynamic markings may be copyrighted, as well as pedal markings and other articulations. If you're not certain about this, then simply set the marking as invisible, or use an alternate marking (hairpins as opposed to text, for example for crescendos and diminuendos/decrescendos).
PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD ANYTHING OTHER THAN BEETHOVEN PIANO SONATAS TO THIS GROUP. ANY OTHER WORKS WILL BE REMOVED WITHOUT NOTICE.
I've already submitted a sample Beethoven Sonata for you to view to get an idea of what we want. It isn't complete.
Share your canons and rounds
Here's the place for any big band music from the 1930's/1940's era, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, etc..
(PLEASE READ: This is not a group for sharing your works or arrangements, this group is intended to be used as a personal database, any unauthorized works shared on this group will be removed)
Hey music-lovers, this group is dedicated to CLASSICAL sheet music for piano only, that has been transfered to musescore.
It's purpuse is to build up a collection of scores, that have been wether written directly for piano or have been transcribed by (in-)famous musicians.
The sheet music in this group should match these criteria:
-> composed for piano by classic musicians f.e 'Händl, Bach, Telemann, …
-> transcriptions of orchestrial pieces by ESTABLISHED COMPOSERS. F.e. 'Pletnev, Horowitz…'
-> trandcribed to be played by ONE PIANIST
The reason for this is, that I'd like to be this group a place to browse and discover classic compositions.
As I proposed to musescore already, a 'playback button' would even make this a more lively experience.
Enjoy, and thanx to all the contributers.
I love anime and play anime songs on my instrument but some people can't do this group will make music for the anime. Name chosen by candyandy22101.

Every month (or other time period I choose) I will give the group a challenge and a due date for when it has to be finished. You can post your song for the challenge at any time as long as it follows the challenges I give you. You can post as many songs as you want. If it doesn't follow the challenges, I will delete it. How we determine the winner is this: Under a discussion called Votes that I will make, you can post which song you like best so far. You can only give 1 vote and It can't be your song (If you have one for the challenge). On the Due Date, I will see which song has the most votes (there can be a tie) and they will win! If there are not 3 or more votes then the competition will be extended longer 1 week so please vote. If you win your username and the song you won with will be displayed in a discussion called Hall of Fame! If I win, I will only say that I won and what song I won with in discussion called Hall Of Fame. Feel free to make any discussion, invite friends, or anything else as long as it follows the rules listed below. This is the "discipline system" for this group: If you get 10 warnings you will be kicked out of this group. This is how you get warnings: 1.Bad/Offensive chat: 6 warnings 2.Bad word in score: 4 warnings per bad word. 3.Advertising without permission: 2 warnings. 4.Song that doesn't follow the period's challenge: 1 warning. Again, if you get 10 warnings you will be kicked out from this group. This group is Moderated (membership requests must be approved). Hiya! Fia here, aka lareinedeslapins ! Welcome to an absolute haven of choral trash - erm, I mean, choral music! :)
I'm a big fan of choral music and other vocal stuff, but I've noticed that there isn't too much of a choral music base on MuseScore. There just isn't enough vocal music of any sort on this site—from pop to art song to chorale—really, and I'm hoping that we can change that!
Anything and everything choir—or any other sort of vocal music—is welcomed here! Talk about voice parts, favorite composers, favorite voicings, choir memes, good songs, etc...and, of course, advertise your own choral music and choral arrangements! And who knows - if we get enough people involved, maybe we could even make our own virtual choir...winkwinknudgenudge. ;D (And maybe if we get enough members we could hold choral composing and arranging competitions, too!)
I would also be open to advertising MuseScore vocal composers and artists as well, so message me if you would like to be featured here! Maybe we'll whip up a little "interview"-type thingie we can do or something, and we can have a vocalist/composer of the week or something. :D
ANY choir-related or voice-related sheet music may be posted in here! Choral pieces, art songs, a cappella arrangements, musical theatre, etc. The one thing I ask is that you avoid adding or advertising any sheet music without vocals in it to this group. I won't kick you from the group or anything, but any non-vocal sheet music or advertisements may or may not suspiciously disappear....
There aren't really any steadfast crazy rules or anything, but I do have a couple of general etiquette and guidelines that I ask you to try and follow: be polite to each other, respect each other and each others' opinions, avoid needless fighting, and have fun!
I have written a few compositions with the word "banana" in it. Banana refers to the fruit or to music that is bananas. This all started because the Downy Yellow Dingle Dork (.a famous bird who even was even in a musescore opera) loves bananas. Submit any composition with a fruity silky amusing funny theme or jwhat themheck, put anything in there because I may think it's funny. I laughed at Beethoven and Mahler (especially Mahler) so your may seem amusing also. I try to comment on every piece. hey, fuss at me if I forget and don't comment.
Welcome all!! (Make sure to read the rules!)
This group is to challenge all of you to try writing a short 8 measure hymn like (4 part harmony using grand staff) piece each day throughout the school year! This will help you grow in many ways as a composer, for you will learn how to train your ear to create 4 part harmonies that sound beautiful, you will become a more creative yet structured composer, and you will learn how to break out of composers block!
(There are specific ways to do 4 part harmonies, but that would take too long to describe, so until you learn how to do it from taking music theory, let you imagination take over!)
- RULES of this group are as follows -
~ Only post music to the group written especially for this challenge-
(For Grand staff only)
(8 measures only)
(Must have 4 part harmony)
~ Only post a discussion that relates to this challenge.
~ It's okay if you cannot post all of them due to a non pro subscription, you can just post your favorite one(s) if you'd like!
~ Be Creative! This challenge is specifically designed to help you branch out into a more structured yet creative mindset for your compositions!
~ It doesn't even have to be good! This is just to structure how your workflow works and to help train your ear to hear things that you haven't before!
Let's all find some good piano music. And let's share everything. Rules:
1. No swearing
2. No rude remarks
3. Help others & this group
4. Have fun & enjoy being with us!!!!
A place for everyone to add and discuss their vocal compositions, original or arrangements.
Welcome to the Choral Composer's Club, where we create music of all sorts for choral settings (SATB, SSA, TTBB, etc.!) This includes but is not limited to original choral compositions, choral compositions with orchestra or other instruments, arrangements of instrumental pieces for choir, or folk songs arranged for choir.
Hopefully we can grow together as a community and flourish in our choral endeavors!
Any music with interesting unusual soundfonts and sound effects
