This is how all high school Clarinet sections are.

Clarinet 1, 2, and 3 all play as separate sections. The Clarinet 1 section always has all of the try hards on that row. They can never really play together with each other because they are always trying to show that they can play their parts better than all of us sitting behind them. Whenever there is a really technical part (With lots of INK! LOL!) they are the ones who are NEVER afraid to try it, while playing confidently at full volume. Basically these are the only players you can hear out of the entire section for most of the piece. The Clarinet 2 and 3 sections are more unified than the first. We are the players that sit behind and we are the first to be ok with not knowing how to play our part and pulling our clarinets down and letting the firsts handle those difficult parts. The ONLY thing these two rows can do better than first is stay playing together. This is because before even discussing, it is understood that when it comes to the difficult parts we all collectively REST. while they continue. You can never hear us when we are playing by ourselves, and you won't ever hear us playing over the Clarinet 1 row like we are supposed to, because we are always unsure of how our parts are supposed to sound.

ARRANGEMENT for last concert

hey, so me and my friends want to put together something for our last ever concert but need some help. it needs to be based on film as that's the concert theme but we don't want to do something boring or typical. 

parts needed:
flute
Bb clarinet
trombone
piano
(possibly guitar if possible but we can make something work otherwise)

any help would be much appreciated as the concert is in 10 days!! thank you :)

Can a bassoonist help me here?

So after listening to Bach's Cello Suites and his Flute Partita, I figured I would do a similar thing but for bassoon. The fact that I am writing for bassoon is partly why I decided to start with an overture instead of a prelude(French overture if you want to get into the specific type based on speed pattern). That isn't to say that the slow section won't include some fast 16ths but I have been adding long notes as I see fit.

I only have 13 measures so far, so I'm not thinking of uploading the piece yet. But I can only use the singing method for the alto range and low soprano pretty much(my natural soprano has gotten limited and squeaky over the years, and not because I overused my soprano so unlike before where I could easily sing up to a high G in my soprano, I can barely get a high C out) which means that as soon as the notes are in the range of a bass voice or a low tenor, I can't use the singing method to check for slur placement at all and in the soprano range, it isn't going to be all that accurate(Not that I would have the bassoon going into a soprano range all that often anyway).

And I myself do not play bassoon, partly because the instrument, even at beginner quality is like $3000 worth. Whereas my beginner quality flute, I got for less than $100. That is quite the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive woodwind at beginner quality, excluding auxiliaries.

If I did play bassoon at an advanced level, I could just write down the notes that I want without worrying about slurs, play the notes as written, and see where I run out of breath and how I naturally phrase it. The breath and phrasing together would determine where to put the slurs. But because I don't play bassoon, and I don't have a friend who I know is a bassoonist, this method won't work either.

So if my vocal range is limited pretty much to alto and low soprano making the singing method not viable for bassoon and I don't play bassoon, nor know a friend who plays bassoon, how am I supposed to determine where to put the slurs in my Bassoon Suite?

MuseScore 3 crashed after adding MuseScore Drumline!

I had a perfectly good MuseScore 3 working program, after upgrading to the latest version 3.0.5. There was a link to download MuseScore Drumline, which I clicked and installed the extension. Now I can't get MuseScore to load at all!

I've re-downloaded it but Windows 10 refuses to open it. All I get is increased CPU and Memory usage and eventually I have to close the unopened app.

Any suggestions?

Thinking of making a separate account for symphonies

So, I have been planning out my first symphony. I gave it the nickname "The War Symphony". It still isn't flushed out yet but I have decided to have it be a programmatic symphony with this movement structure:

First Movement:

Key: Bb major
Aspect: Battle
Form: Sonata Form

Second Movement:

Key: F minor
Aspect: Death
Form: Not decided on yet but I'm leaning towards ternary form

Third Movement:

Key: Not decided on
Aspect: Battle again
Form: Scherzo and Trio

Finale:

Key: Bb major
Aspect: Victory
Form: Sonata-Rondo Form

The first movement is what I have flushed out the most out of all the movements so far in my plans so obviously, that will be the part I work on first. But I'm wondering, since I can't really afford a Pro membership(maybe a few years down the line I will be able to afford it but I can't currently), should I make a separate account to put my symphony score on once it is finished? And if so, should that account be just for my symphonies if I happen to want to compose more than 1 symphony?

Help needed from flutists/flautists(?)

Hi, I was wondering, are there any flute players that have Mark Karen’s ‘The Flute Etudes’ book? I’m trying to help out a friend after hearing that the flute etudes used by TMEA are among some of the hardest. I know that most of them that were selected by the author are in public domain, but I don’t know which ones. If you could tell me which etudes are used in the book, that’d be greatly appreciated.
