Pokemon World Tournament Final Battle - Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 (Arrangement)

Uploaded on Aug 8, 2019

This is an arrangement I made based on a MIDI transcription. It sounds ok, but it's more of a proof of concept, I suppose. Whether or not it's artistically valid may or may not matter, because I learned a lot while making it.
Many parts are indeed copy-pasted from the MIDI itself (and then cleaned up for scoring), though the percussion I notated by ear and hand. In fact, the percussion is almost exactly the same as in the original, compared to the rearrangement of instruments I did for the other parts. Of course, I took some liberties with the instrumentation, limiting it to a few synths and guitars. I did add some parts, but couldn't do much because the harmony is so damn solid.
The way Go Ichinose arranges his pieces is somewhat interesting. He's not averse to putting many sounds in the background that would probably not be heard on the DS's crappy speakers. Yet if they were taken out there would unmistakably be something missing. Like in PWT Final Battle, there's a really sweet-sounding strings part that I've never heard before, but when it's singled out it could be its own song. Same with the piano in Rival Battle (BW2). I have also noticed that he sometimes puts hi-hats on a separate track from the rest of the percussion. All the delay effects you hear in the music are hand-placed (rather than being a filter), which is funnily enough something I do in Musescore. And he really loves his chord extensions - especially if they're in a solo part.
So what have I learned? Don't be afraid to add seemingly out-of-place accompianment if it feels like it'll add necessary depth. Don't be afraid to go crazy with any part, as long as it stays in tone with the rest of the song. And try to fill out all ranges of frequency.
