May be making it a slur that spans these 5 notes? Surely not a tie between non-adjacent notes in different voices?
Very strange notation, these tied notes look like dotted 8th notes (due to the stem being downwards), but are in fact dotted quarter notes, and a real 8th note in between on seemingly the same stem.
Haven't had a look at the IMSLP copy...

Well, I did now, and there those 2 dotted quarter notes have stem up, and then all of a sudden that 2nd ties makes sense ;-)

Yes, you're right - and thanks for persisting! I have switched the lower dotted note in bar 6 to Voice 4, so that it can tie to the Voice 4 quaver in bar 7. Then I hid the flag on the Voice 2 quaver in bar 7 to simulate the look of the original engraving.

Do you think that the new layout is clearer for the pianist?
