Rootham op 1 "Four Songs"
Uploaded on Jan 8, 2017
These four early songs were composed in 1894-95 by Cyril Rootham (1875-1938). At the time Rootham was a young undergraduate reading Classics at St John’s College, Cambridge – before he even started his degree in Music in 1897.
The four songs were chosen by the composer to represent his Opus 1, but originally they were published separately. The first to appear was probably “In the Merry May”, published by Stanley Lucas, Weber, Pitt & Hatzfeld. The three other songs were originally published by Boosey and Co.
