Papa Dementia's Grillin'

For Symphony Orchestra

Uploaded on Feb 28, 2019

Papa Dementia's Grillin' is an old inside joke which became the name of a little piano song years ago which gradually swallowed up bigger and bigger scores to become this which I am posting now. The writing (or, I should say, curation) of this 'Papa Dementia's Grillin'' and my string quartet 'Nonlinear Development' has reunited me and musescore once again for the first time in years. I want to take the opportunity to thank those of you who have been active members in this community who provided encouragement to me in my early days. Even though I was most definitely a terrible composer, you helped delude me into thinking I had a talent for songwriting, which kept me writing and writing. I am truly shocked by what I used to believe was good music -- and how fuckin pompous I acted about my songs too -- and I am now aware that in years to come, 'Papa Dementia's Grillin'' will too look comparably awful as well. It is my hope that by its rediscovery I will be a competent composer, but for now, I can only do what I've always done under the guise of this goal-- misguided or not, I intend to keep practicing. I would be honored by your feedback as this score has been formatted to fit most orchestral competition's instrument listings (I do not expect to be picked as a finalist for any, but it's thrilling nonetheless to submit). It's exciting to feel proud of something again, even though I know exactly where the pride goes once I give a song enough time to really sit in it's own mediocrity-- for me to discover it once again months later and understand how bad it always was. This isn't supposed to be a complaint; it’s a wonderful process that's kept me updating and improving for what will soon be half my life; I am a freshman in college this year. When I started using musescore, I was ten years old. In any case, it's been a true privilege to learn and grow with everyone here. Musescore is a resource of respect and compassion, and I hope the world is braced for its music, because it carries the power of our authentic and personal motivation with it.
