Cello Arrangement

Hello. New here. Just downloaded the basic programme and rummaging around I can't find what I need so perhaps someone could kindly help.
My problem is, I have purchased sheet music for a singer which is all in Treble Clef. For me, as a cellist, it would be less hard work to play if it were rewritten and re-arranged in treble, tenor and bass clef. And here's the important bit: a mixture of those three clefs on the same page. I can't see a way of achieving this. Any ideas?

Help With Arrangement

I'm trying to arrange a string quartet cover of Bird Set Free by Sia and I have most of it done. I just need help with some of the parts where, in the song, Sia is just riffing and singing kind of free in the background. Her doing that makes it really dramatic and highlights the climax which is why I want to try and imitate it. But I can't figure out the notes or how to write it (the rhythms, ornamentations, etc.). So if anyone would be interested in helping me out I'd really appreciate it! Just let me know and I'll send you the piece.

The string instrument doctor

Hi there fellow string instrument players,

Outside of transcription and arranging for orchestra and occasionally smaller ensembles I am also a professional violin maker and restorer.
And for that reason, I am willing to try and answer every question on the subject of violins, violas, cellos and contrabasses in regard of construction, acoustics and history.

Questions can go from: 'How best to clean my violin' to 'What's so special about old instruments and especially those by Stradivarius'.

Please take note that my mother tongue isn't english, I'll always try to utilize the correct terms and words but mistakes are bound to be made!

Using [Basic] Counterpoint for Strings, and Starting Out

Writing for strings can be a difficult process and there are so many variables whenever you delve into writing for string players. This strategy may help with some problems, but not all problems will be fixed automatically.

Use counterpoint to help add to your melodies. Keep in mind that you need to be acquainted with counterpoint and counterpoint isn't always easy. If you need help with counterpoint, I'll give you some advice.
- Whenever you have only one line [melody], use the following intervals: Unison, major/minor seconds, Major/minor thirds, Perfect fourths/fifths (watch out and don't use fifths more than once), Major/minor sixths, Octaves or perfect eights... Notice there aren't any Dissonant or augmented values [you're allowed to write them If you don't want strict counterpoint]!
- If you have two voices and want to make each voice singable, be sure to use the following intervals: Unison, Major/minor thirds, Perfect fifths [watch out for paralles] (fourths make it harder for your singers), Major/minor sixths, and Octaves/perfect eights... Notice there aren't any Dissonant or augmented values [you're allowed to write them If you don't want strict counterpoint]!

That's all you need to know. Start with writing for solo instead of a duet. After you learned a little more about counterpoint from that; Write one (more) solo for viola. Afterwards, write a duet piece for any 2 string instruments; Follow the advice for singable voices.

NOTE: THIS ISN'T ALL THERE IS TO COUNTERPOINT IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE, GO TO THIS VIDEO SERIES ON YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/JcqrGLvs95M?list=PLA660D90FB432BD69. TURN UP YOUR VOLUME CAUSE IT'S A BIT SILENT.

Followers

We (Joseph and Hannah) have decided that every time we double in the number of followers (so right now we're at 5, so it'll be 10, 20, 40, 80, maybe throw in something for 100, 160, etc.) we will alternate posting an original composition to thank you! (It may or may not be very good. We're certainly not experts

Moving Over to Cello As Well

I started off on violin and am now primarily a violist for string instruments, and recently I rented a Cello as well. I'd like to play Cello pretty proficiently, but for some reason it seems to be painful after more than just 15 or so minutes of playing. My bow arm gets really stiff. Is there anyone out there who plays Cello? Is this just normal when starting out on Cello or is there probably something wrong with the way I'm holding the bow?

Interesting Quartet Pieces

Hello!
I am an eighth grade viola player. ME and 6 other people are looking for a song to play at GMEA Solo and Ensemble this year.

If you can help me, the song:
-Must have 1st and 2nd violins, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass Parts.
-Cannot be an arrangement of a modern tune.

Are there any other middle school students who can give us a fairly simple song to learn and master, hopefully earning us a high rating.

(We play fairly well, so don't be afraid to give us something challenging.

THANK YOU!!!

My string quartet - would appreciate advice

Hi all,

I recently posted my first attempt at a movement for string quartet: http://musescore.com/rpbouman/string-quartet-in-a-minor (videoscore: http://musescore.com/node/480266, youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3g0QgJarSE).

I would really appreciate comments from string instrumentalists, like

1) is it playable?
2) how hard is it?
3) is the notation (dynamics, pizzicato, arco etc) clear?
4) how does it sound? Would extra instruction be required to highlight important lines?

Thanks in advance, and kind regards

Roland

Violin concerto:Secondmovement almost finished slow&fastsections

My entry in the post-romantic postBarber violin concerto stakes!I love the 2nd movement.
Still working on orchestrating the first movement which at 382 measures seems too short. It has 3 main themes in exposition but they are not developed are they?Old-fashioned sonata form doesn't have to be followed but I did want to have some guide for structuring the material. the recap comes with 1st subject repeated in F major instead of opening Gmajor. There was other material I wanted to repeat :maybe I will.It flows very well (the way I want it to)so maybe I should let it alone -it ain't a big post- romantic concerto- it's a small one .I like it very much .I have a theme for the finale but haven't felt like composing anything new! i would like some sophisticated listeners for it but I feel it flows so well maybe anyone would like it.

My First Attempt at "Minimalism"?

Hello Musescore! I have a question for you.

You know those songs you would possibly hear in movies? I think that is also considered minimalism. Well, I want to attempt a song like that based on some ideas I already have. Does anyone have any idea what instrumentation I should use?

A good soundfont for strings?

I've been trying to find a better soundfont for a string piece that I'm writing. I'm currently using the Fluid one that musescore recommends in the handbook. This is a LOT better than the default one, but I'm wondering if anybody has discovered a better one on the net that's compatible with musescore. Any help?
