Hello FHP, can someone tell me how they best build their stamina when playing? I find myself commonly running out of energy to play, and can't play so high for that session after having played long or high. How do I make my playing sessions last longer without me losing range so quickly?
Hello and Welcome! I would like to see how long you people have been playing the horn. There are not many horn players in my city, so I would like to find others who play the horn(Not in person, online! :) ).
So I will start.
I'm a beginner. I started playing a month ago. I play the violin, viola, mandolin, clarinet, and horn.
After 6 years of absence I finally came up with some new scores and also "improved" the old. Feel free to comment. I never studied music with a tutor nor had any musical lessons due to my medicine studies. Please check the solo for horn at Ocean Beauty. Horn is my favorite solo instrument.Add your thoughts
Been playin horn for a bit more than four years and I really love playing it! I really need some help in my higher register, i can hit the high F but i truggle going to G and beyond that and im starting to feel discouraged :c. I'd love to hear some tips with improving my range. Thanks!
I'm glad to find such a large group of my people! So now an actual discussion question. I am trying to play this piece here ----> https://musescore.com/user/5473921/scores/2030666 and measure 27 etc. is killing me! I can move my fingers fast enough, but I cant move my air fast enough. Any tips?
I was thinking about trying to get money to buy a new, professional horn, and I was wondering what kind of horns are the best. I know that the Berlin Phil plays on Alexander 103s, and they always seem to get good reviews, so I would definitely look at those, but I also know that there are other fantastic instruments and the Alexander might not be the best fit for me. Right now I play a Holton H179, and it works quite well for me, but I have college auditions next year and then college itself, and I think that a better horn would be beneficial.
I was looking online at alexander 103s, just for fun, and I saw that there are several different metals that they use. Each has its pros and cons, but I couldn't find which most people prefer.
If it helps at all, I prefer playing high horn (1st or 3rd).
Hello there! I was wondering about what everyone's range was. I am so self conscious that I have a tiny range. I also find that for big concerts where we play 10-12 pieces I can barely hit high notes at the end. I was looking for tips on how to expand range and build better endurance. Anything will help!
I've been charting out scores on Muescore for several months now, and i have noticed that the horns are so dang quiet! You can never here them, as apposed to how the actually sound in other sound founts. It can be very frustrating, because i need horns to be loud on parts where they are supposed to be and you can barely here them!
Howdy, I'm new here so heres something about me. I have been playing horn for around three years. Its not the only brass instrument I play, but it is superior to the rest. I am about to go in to college as a Music major. Thats me, for the most part. since I have only been playing horn for three years, I am far from knowing everything. So I would love to hear any tips, tricks, or facts about horn, I'm all ears. Anyway, thats me.
Hey there, I'm new to this group. I play the alto saxophone but I'll be switching to french horn a couple weeks into school. I'm switching because the alto saxophone is really boring to me now. I can't wait, I've played a little bit of french horn before and it's awesome! And I might be keeping my username the same, because I like it, lol. So, if you have and tips and things like that, that'd be greatly appreciated!
