_Damien_ • Aug 15, 2016 Congradulations to the 2016 DCI Champions the BLUEDEV... i mean the BLUECOATS! Comments dillonreese Nice one lol. HardcorpsDrumCorps Congratulations... Not congradulations lol Tapper7 Agreed, I remember whooping their ass in the 90s, it is always good to see a new corps make a come-up. We lost Big 27, The Bridgemen, VK & Star -- comforting to see two new champs in just three years; same goes for Crown, I remember when they couldnt break 80 if their lives depended on it. Congratulations also to my fmr. teacher/brass caption head @Santa Clara - Dean Westman, on leading his 3rd corps to medals & rings (Rosemont 94-95, SCV 97-99, Canton 2013 - Present. In 97 the average age in the hornline was 17 and the average div1 experience level was 1 year. We began the season 10 points behind Concord and getting shamed by Rosemont too. By the 1st regional (Drums along the rockies) we beat and never lost to the cavs again, in fact, we beat everyone, were ranked #1 by DCP, tied BD for 1st in Q's and were even the "Reliable [Steve] Rondinaro Pick" to win Finals Night. MUCH of the credit is due to his energy, ideas, innovations, inspiration and teaching ability. I was at DCI, front row, on the 50, I can tell you that NO CORPS was in the same league as BC--not even close. I admit I hated the uniforms, but the music rocked, they won the crowd NO QUESTION and in rare form, adjudication followed suit! It was akin to 88 Madison's win, or 91 Star...overdue, obvious and well-deserved. It also gives hope to us old-timers who dislike all the changes from Bb on .... since 2000, only 2004 Rosemont, 2011 Santa Clara, 2016 CC and 2016 BC legitimately entertained me (I actually put these shows on my ipod) sorry - as much as im glad they won, I didn't "buy" 2013 CC. I'll never yell "blooo" but I did give them many standing o's. And thank you to "wink man" for having the balls to pop up to a double G (concert high F) at the climax of your solo. I am so sick of weak-ass, watered-down, "safe" soprano solos. Look at 90s BD, my ex-roomy Roland Garceau pops a double C (concert high G) at the end of the closer in 94, in 95 Scott Steward plays his famous lick ending in AA, BB ...CC! and my co Capo Valley HS alumnus, Sean Billings hits the most exposed doubleC ever placed in a show (in the closer, 1997, entire corps crescendos, drops out, then the only sound is Billings' Kanstul Soprano quoting a lick from the main theme then popping up to the double C - he pasted it in-tune, in-time and loud as f--k. If winky hasn't aged out yet, I hope he (and BC) will consider putting a double C (now a concert high Bb) in their 2017 pgm. Canton made "dc great again" and I thank them for it. Worth all the layovers and shitty weather in Indy just to see them. Bravo. More plz.
