I'd like to try something fun in my new role as co-administrator of Laugh Silly. Each Month, I will name the best laugh-inducing, silly composition submitted during the month, at least according to me and then post the winners here.
You are also welcome to nominate what you think are the best of the month, also.
We (Joseph and Hannah) have decided that every time we double in the number of followers (so right now we're at 5, so it'll be 10, 20, 40, 80, maybe throw in something for 100, 160, etc.) we will alternate posting an original composition to thank you! (It may or may not be very good. We're certainly not experts
wouldnt it be nice if musescore had a group devoted to educating members on music theory, arranging, orchestration...
yeah, I know that some high school classes use musescore for teaching music but that isnt exactly what I mean here. I mean a place totally here at musescore where members could make intelligent critical educated helpful comments about music.
there are certainly members who are very well educated in music who could help members out with their music, exchange helpful comments, a place where people could actually learn about music rather than the hit or miss experimentation alot of us do. I know I am just talking into the wind, but still, sigh.....oh well.....
here is an idea for a new competition
someone will start a composition with maybe 5-10 bars and then another person will continue it for another 5-10 measures, and then the next person and so on until the game will unexpectedly end (the music stops, in other words) and the last one to enter when the music stops (as determined randomly by the one running the competition) wins.
any takers or anyone want to start a piece?
I realize there is likely a discussion of this elsewhere but decided to have my own discussion to keep track of issues. you are welcome to add your own comments of course.
notice that some compositions created in the older version don't open in the newer one, says they are corrupted. I realize my music is very corrupt but musescore could have been a little nicer about it all. that is just plain mean.
notice that the violin sounds a lot better, more pleasant ( I won't say it sounds more like a real violin being played because then it would sound worse, if I was playing anyway)
but also notice that the overall sound seems very quiet. I have to turn the computer volume up really high. and then if I forget and play something with the older version, I am deafened. yowza!
wonder how music made with this new version plays at the online musescore site, or does the sound balance get messed up as it does now…
haven't found how to do some things… seems they changed the layout a bit.
Based on this playlist you must create a medley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly_FAIOPH0Y&list=RDly_FAIOPH0Y#t=0

The following is a synopsis of an opera about the DYDD, Downy Yellow Dingle Dork for those of you who still do not know. (see http://chinadoll123.wix.com/dingle-dork1 and https://musescore.com/groups/the-downy-yellow-dingle-dork-extinction-group and also https://musescore.com/user/266756). Any suggestions or comments are welcome (other than "don't do it") and anyone who would be willing to collaborate or otherwise help in any degree on this project is most welcome. Although it may have taken Rossini only 13 days (supposedly, I also heard 40 days) to write the "Barber of Seville," I am no Rossini of course and this project, if it ever gets done (no, don't start off negatively! be positive) will likely take more like 13 months to put together (being realistic, no?) Anyway, I welcome any comments as always. Thank you, music lovers.
Synopsis of the dydd opera
An opera in Three acts
Patterned after the magic flute
Themes are right to life, preservation, tolerance, freedom
Overture- a medley of the opera tunes
We see the members of the secret audobon discussing the dydd. They sing of the reasons why the dydd must be made extinct and of their plans for its capture and extermination. This should be done very comically.
We then meet some isolated folks who want to save the dydd. These folks each have their own melody and they meet and sing a medley of their individual tunes.
They decide to form the knughts of dingle dork. This introduces the theme of the knughts and their motto.
We get a fleeting glimpse of the shadow of the dydd which introduces its theme briefly. Then we hear its cawing mocking laugh as it flees the pursuing secret audobon
Act one ends with the knughts singing on one side and the secret audobon singing on the pther side their competing themes and aims.
The act ends with both groups expressing frustration at not being able to capture it and we agin hear the dydd’s cawing laugh as the curtain closes.
This act begins with the chase music as the secret audobon sets its traps and then falls into their own traps.
We then get introduced to the dydd and it sings its tune.it sings about its life and how important and beautiful it is although it Is lonely since there are no other dydds. It can also sing its signature theme.
The knughts then chase after the dydd and they do many comical face plants and capture a dydd doll.
The dydd has many adventures in its travels to other lands. Th act ends with its discovery of pacificus and its capture by the Inhabitants.
The third act is the resolution of everything.
As the act opens, we learn about pacificus and the dydd meets a female dydd and sings its love song. It realizes its importance in the world through discovering its history in the land of pacificus.
Meanwhile the secret audobon and the knughts have a showdown and manage to capture each other in their traps.
The act ends with everyone in traps or tied up and the dydd comes center stage and proudly sings its victory song. The female dydd cones out to join it and they sing a duet. Then all the baby dydds join them onstage and everyone sings the grand fanale.
post your silliest most fun original composition to the Laugh Silly Group and keep us all laughing hilariously. Anything goes. No deadline yet, let's so who is brave enough or silly enough to enter. don't worry, no one will laugh at you, they will just laugh at the brilliant humor and fun of your compositions. Remember, there is no difference between silly and serious in music. they both begin with the letter "S" after all for goodness sake.
elephants_give_me_drinks reportedly already wants to be in this contest with the wonderful composition "One, Two, Three, Four" so it is officially now entered. Listen to it at https://musescore.com/user/561466/scores/383781
So, enter now at Laugh Silly, https://musescore.com/groups/laugh-silly the home of all of musescore's silly, nonsensical, and ridiculous compositions (I just made that up, it might not be true, likely isn't, ok, it is a complete fabrication)
Apparently the DYDD had escaped!! We need everyones help to fight the dagerous dingle dork species that gaurd the one and only Downy Yellow Dingle Dork! Get you sword and let the quest begin!!
(if you dont want this, chinadoll, feel free to delete it)
With all the craze about Star Wars these days, the time is ripe for another take-off in fun of the phenomenon. Sure, there have been many take-offs of Star Wars but I haven't seen any here at musescore. So how about it or are you sick of all this Star Wars stuff? or do you think that having fun with it is kind of sacrilegious?
So come up with your own silly Wars music. You can think of your own silly take-off. How about zit wars? Seems silly enough. I once saw a play that was a take-off of Macbeth in which there was a zits battle instead of a sword fight, you had to be there to appreciate it.
I thought of Stare Wars with face-offs or stare-offs between our hero, Look Skyward of the Jade Eyes and the dark eyed villain, Stares Evader. Sound silly enough? A musical version is coming soon to a theater near you or else to this musescore group.
Would like to hear your own silly version. Anyone interested?
Stuart D had a great idea, suggesting a song about a superworm in response to my song about about superdog. Superworm, a hero sure to worm its way into your heart. Superdog, sure to make you howl. Maybe Rivergrove's burping dino would make a great silly superhero also. Of course, the DYDD is already a superhero.
For this competition, you can come up with your own superhero. Here are silly ideas:
How about superdustbunny, not a hero to sneeze at?
Supercentipede, with its legion of legs?
superzit, the unconquerable, which springs into action on dates and job interviews. no, that is too much
Superprune, the amazing flying fruit that discommodes bad guys
superarmchair, traps unsuspecting villians and envelops them into a deep sleep
supersock, whose powerful aroma incapacitates the worst enemy
supernoodle, supertonsil, supertooth (used I think already), super baby, super canary, super goldfish, the list is endless.
So hurry and enter now. only $19.95 but wait you also get…. sorry never mind that. just enter the contest, it will be fun. no rules about the song, lyrics would be good but not necessary. just something that sounds heroic and silly.
I have started a new group for those precious few of us who like lyrics in songs. If you write lyrics in your songs, want someone to write lyrics for your songs, or want to write songs for someone's lyrics, or even just enjoy listening to songs with lyrics then this group may be just up your alley.
Check it out, you can always Un-join in the future. We're just starting up and we really would like you to post your finished songs with lyrics, help and collaboration is only done through discussions so your privacy is respected.
Cheers for the New year... look forward to your works.
the "Laugh Silly" version of the academy awards for music and composer. All members can submit their vote for the best "Laugh Silly" composer and for best composition thus far (excluding chinadoll, in other words, do not vote for chinadoll or anything of chinadoll compositions, not that you would necessarily, but just in case, thanks)
gee, it is not too early to think about Halloween, is it? After having heard many neat compositions of spooky music here at musescore, I thought, why not have a Halloween Music Contest. So submit your original fun spooky music for this contest to end appropriately on Oct 31. Can't wait to hear your compositions.
The World Cup is a HUGE deal internationally and I always love watching it. So I came up with the idea of, instead of having soccer teams, we should have composers!
1. The Cup begins with 64 composers. That's right. 64.
2. Once the 64th composer joins, the games will begin.
3. The 64 composers will be split up into 16 groups of 4 each.
4. The other 3 people in your group will be your round 1 competition.
5. After I split you into 16 groups, I will give a prompt for everybody. The prompt may be "Create a song based upon the Avenger's Theme" or "Create a piece consisting of only woodwinds and a marimba." It could be anything.
6. You will have one week to complete your song and post it in your group.
7. Once the week is up, I will have listened to all of your pieces and chosen the top 2 in each of your groups. The top 2 in each group I chose will move on to the next round. The other 2 in your group will not.
8. After 2 people in each group have been eliminated, there will be 32 remaining.
9. Each person in the top 32 will go head-to-head against another random person.
10. After one week, I will have given another prompt and you would've written another piece.
11. I will chose who in your head-to-head match had the better song. And the worst.
12. The person with the worst will be eliminated. Then there will be 16 composers left.
13. That same system will go on until only 1 remains. They will be called the WORLD CUP CHAMPION!!!
The world cup champion will be followed by me and I will favorite 10 of your scores. (Or if you are not pro, all of them.) And, of course, you will be known as the world cup champion and have a chance in the next world cup if you want.
It's always nice to be patriotic, even if your cause is totally - to put it nicely, a little odd. That's why this contest is just for those people. Your mission is to write an anthem about something completely ridiculous and silly. An example anthem is found here: https://musescore.com/user/138756/scores/712246
I will judge 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and others can help to judge provided that they don't enter in the contest.
Thank you and good composing!
P.S. Deadline is September 7th (Labour Day for us North Americans)

-The Lunchbell Anthem by 20JPorter
-Anthem to Bellybutton Lint by Chinadoll
I just got a great idea for a new contest. I've noticed that a lot musescorers, my self included, are huge Lord of the Rings fans. Throughout Tolkein's works, there are dozens of lyrics without written melodies. My contest idea is to adapt a original, creative melody to the lyrics of any song in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I think I am going to adapt a melody for Tom Bombadill's song.
