Competition #8

This group is officially being rebooted! Here's the rules for the next contest:

1. You must rearrange at least one piece in this group.
2. You are allowed to include pieces not in this group (e.g. classical music, video game music themes) in your rearrangement.
3. You are NOT allowed to rearrange any of your own compositions, but you are allowed to rearrange anything else, including works you've previously arranged and published on Musescore.
4. You are allowed to use ANY number of instruments in your arrangement.
5. You are allowed to effectively change the soundfont and copy and paste the original score into different instruments. If you're trying to pull that off for a solo-instrument work, though, I'd highly prefer that you copy and paste into multiple instruments.
6. One rearrangement per person, in case it wasn't obvious.
7. You must post a link to your entry in this thread.
8. Please provide the names and links to all works in this group you've rearranged in the description of your entry, as well as the names of any pieces not in this group you included.

All standard rules. But here's the final one:
9. You must primarily use a different mode than the original piece you're arranging used (e.g. a piece in major key could become minor, Dorian, Phrygian, etc.). If you're arranging multiple pieces, use a different mode from the original for the material from each piece (another example: if arranging two pieces, one major and one minor, you could make the major one' s material, where it appears, minor, and vice versa).

The contest will run until it has three entries, at which point it will remain open for exactly one more week. The winner will be determined by a vote.

Competition #7

Here's the next round! These are the rules:

4. This time, you are allowed to use ANY number of instruments in your arrangement! Use 1 or 30, I don't care.

Now all of these rules are taken nearly exactly from the previous competition. However, here is the final rule, to make things interesting:

9. Your remix must have lyrics over at least one minute of its length. You don't have to write the lyrics, but you can if you want. If you get the lyrics from somewhere else, make sure to credit the original source.

This round will be judged by public vote, the prize being (of course) hosting the next competition. You have until 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, October 21 to enter (although I probably will not check entries until the following morning).

Good luck!

P.S. I forgot to make this clear, but if the piece you're remixing already has lyrics, you have to replace them -- you can't just keep the same ones.

Competition #6

Here's next round!

These are the rules:
For example, I'd be allowed to arrange Csikos Post (even though I've previously arranged it) but not Ragtime Evening (because that's my own composition).
4. This time, you are allowed to use ANY number of instruments in your arrangement! Use 1 or 30, I don't care.
8. Please provide links to all works in this group you've rearranged in the description of your entry.

The deadline for submitting your rearrangement is midnight MDT on Saturday, Oct. 14 (though I suspect you'll be asleep by then). I will post the judging round on that day.

You get to know in advance that this round will be judged by...public voting in the "Voting For Competition #6" thread instead. This is to make voting more convenient. If only one person enters, I will make that thread, but that person will win by default and voting will be skipped.

There's a fair chance I won't be making a piece for this round, FWIW.

The winner gets to host Competition #7 and post its rules, deadlines, judging system, etc. In the case that I somehow win, second place gets to host. If there's a tie for first/second, I make www.random.org decide the winner. If nobody enters or I'm somehow the only person to, I guess I decide Competition #7...

Competition #5

Here's round 5!

These are the rules:
1.) Remix a score from anywhere. From this group, from another group, from your mom's spotify playlist, anywhere.
2.) You cannot put more than 24 hours into this score. These hours do not have to be consecutive. But there is no way of knowing whether or not you followed this rule so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
3.) The score must have AT LEAST 4 instruments.
4.) Your score must have the chord progression: I–V–vi–IV.
5.) You are allowed to change the sound font if you so please.
6.) If you remixed a score, please provide the link to the original in the description of your score.

The deadline for submissions is Sep. 26 at 12:00 AM.
Winner gets to host competition #6 and a bag of my sweaty potatoes™.

Any ties in the voting will be broken with any random generator I find.
If no one submits anything I'll probably just pick someone or something.

Good luck!

Voting For Competition #4

As previously mentioned in Competition #4's main thread, this round's winner will be decided by secret ballot voting!

This is how the secret ballot voting works:
- Any member of this group can vote.
- Each person can vote for only one entry. In case a person votes more than once, only the most recent vote counts.
- Competitors cannot vote for their own entries.
- All votes MUST be e-mailed to me. Votes sent to me with any other method will not count. My e-mail address is dekkadeci@gmail.com.
- The e-mail that contains your vote must contain your Musescore username. I strongly suspect at least some of you have e-mails that do not match your Musescore usernames, and I don't feel like doing the research. E-mails that do not contain your Musescore username will not count as votes.
- Please do NOT post your vote in any threads in this group, especially this one. This is so other votes should not affect your own. Examples of how posted votes have affected my votes in this group include me abstaining from the Competition #3.1 vote because I didn't mind rearranging any of the pieces other than Mysterious Nights and the times I've voted for a piece other than my own entry because nobody else voted for their own entries, so please don't post your vote anywhere.
- Posts containing your vote will be disciplined. This will most likely be done by making your vote not count, although I reserve the right to change this. Unfortunately, by the time you post your vote, the damage has already been done and others' voting habits may already have been affected, so please don't post your vote!

The entries you can vote for are below:
- Œnanthic: "Fight As If Their Sleeves Are Green" (https://musescore.com/c9h18o2/scores/4449836)
- sweaty potato: "Thunder On Boss Boss Theme (Remix)" (https://musescore.com/sweaty-potato/thunder-on-boss-boss-theme)

Again, the winner gets to host Competition #5 and post its rules, deadlines, judging system, etc.

Ties for first place will be resolved by using www.random.org and making it determine a single winner.

You have until midnight MDT on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 to vote! The winner will be posted on that day.

(For the matter, I have already voted and I will not change my vote.)

Competition #4

Here's next round!

These are the rules:
1. You must rearrange at least one piece in this group.
2. You are allowed to include pieces not in this group (e.g. classical music, video game music themes) in your rearrangement.
3. You are NOT allowed to rearrange anything you've published on Musescore. This includes transcriptions and arrangements of works not in this group, so I wouldn't be able to rearrange Csikos Post, Galacta Knight's theme, "Victory's Delight" from Bravely Default, "You Will Know Our Names" from Xenoblade Chronicles, or "The Starlit Wilds" from Shovel Knight, for example (even though I published someone else's transcription/copy in that last case and used a corrupted quote of a few bars of the second last case in a Fire Emblem remix).
4. As clarification for Rule #3, you are allowed to rearrange works you've taken down from Musescore, but not your own works that we can currently access.
5. Your rearrangement must be for at MOST 4 instruments.
6. You are allowed to effectively change the soundfont and copy and paste the original score into different instruments. If you're trying to pull that off for a solo-instrument work, though, I'd highly prefer that you copy and paste into multiple instruments.
7. One rearrangement per person, in case it wasn't obvious.
8. You must post a link to your entry in this thread.
9. Please provide links to all works in this group you've rearranged in the description of your entry.

The deadline for submitting your rearrangement is midnight MDT on Tuesday, Sept. 5 (though I suspect you'll be asleep by then). I will post the judging round on that day.

You get to know in advance that this round will be judged by secret ballot voting. My e-mail is dekkadeci@gmail.com. E-mail me your votes instead of posting them in the judging round thread. I'm going for secret ballot voting because I know for a fact that my public voting has been affected by your public votes (e.g. me abstaining from the Competition #3.1 vote because I didn't mind rearranging any of the pieces other than Mysterious Nights, the times I've voted for a piece other than my own entry because nobody else voted for their own entries), so I suspect your voting has been affected, too.

There's a fair chance I won't be making a piece for this round, as I'll be taking a trip from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. I won't have access to my copy of Musescore then.

The winner gets to host Competition #5 and post its rules, deadlines, judging system, etc. In the case that I somehow win, second place gets to host. If there's a tie for first/second, I make www.random.org decide the winner. If nobody enters or I'm somehow the only person to, I guess I decide Competition #5...

Competition #3.2

Now all the competitors have to remix "The Felin Duplication Incident" by Œnanthic.
The arrangement must be written for almost four instruments. All the competitors, between 16.00 and 18.00 GMT, on August 23rd, will have to share their own arrangements.
You can't share your own arrangement beforehands.

"New" Group -- Genesis Games Music Team

Hello everyone,

It seems I'm now advertising another new group. (Well, technically, the group I'm about to advertise isn't "new," but nobody besides me has joined it yet at the time of this writing.) The Musescorer Enochulous has made a group called "Genesis Games Music Team" (link here: https://musescore.com/groups/1892176) and is looking for composers and/or other music department members to help him create and share music for some games he is planning on making. (As far as I can tell, right now he's working on one called ZeroBlade Run.) If you're interested in composing for a video game, I recommend you check it out.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,
Oenanthic

I can't take part at the competition.

1. https://musescore.com/user/1654166/scores/4067511 : Mysterious Nights by EnderDalek712

Voting for Competition #1

It is now time to vote on which piece will win the competition! The prize for winning this time is getting to choose the next competition and its prize. We have five entries to choose from:

Dekkadeci - "Are They Trying to Battle Us?" https://musescore.com/user/9996931/scores/4294621
EnderDalek712 - Fraught Forest https://musescore.com/user/1654166/scores/4295356
Gaster Blaster Master - Sohon Desert Piano https://musescore.com/user/8462661/scores/4290806
Œnanthic - The EnderDalek March https://musescore.com/c9h18o2/scores/4297321
American Bacon - Deep Space https://musescore.com/user/3119291/scores/4298406

Anyone in the group, even people who didn't submit anything, can vote. You can't vote for your own submissions, but you can vote for arrangements of your own pieces (I deliberated on this one for a while, but having multiple pieces you can't vote on would seem to pigeonhole many people's choices). You can only vote once. Voting will be closed, and votes will be tallied, in exactly three days (that is, at noon on August 4th). Submit your votes now!

Competition #2

Rules:
1. You must have at least 4 instruments. (unless you are doing a song for a solo instrument)
2. Sometimes it's unavoidable, such as with the melody, but try not to just copy and paste the original score onto different instruments unless you really think it would sound the best.
3. The competition ends on Friday, August 11 on GMT -5:00

The prize for winning is deciding the next round's rules.

Competition #1

Well, now that we have 9 members (not counting Dun Ought's four accounts as separate people), it's about time to start the first contest. Here are the rules:

1. One submission per person.
2. Your submission must be an arrangement, remix, or what-have-you of another Musescorer's piece. No arranging your own pieces!
3. You can arrange/remix any of the pieces in this group, but nothing else.

There are no restrictions this time around. Judging will be done via voting (more details on that after submissions close). Everyone participating has one week to submit their piece as a comment to this discussion -- i.e. the deadline is July 31st. Good luck!

Competition #0: Practice Round

84 scores already, eh? And with only 3 members? I'd say this group is off to a great start!
So anyway, I've decided to declare a "practice competition" so that the current members of the group can see what future competitions will be like. This will not be judged.

Rules:
1. One submission per person.
2. Your submission must be an arrangement, remix, or what-have-you of another Musescorer's piece. No arranging your own pieces!
3. You can arrange/remix any of the pieces in this group.

The "deadline" (not that it really matters) will be in a week and a day (that is, July 29). Try to get your pieces in by then. To submit a piece, just post a link to it in this discussion.

Good luck, and have fun!

List of scores you'd like to include, but can't

It just occurred to me that people who don't have pro memberships might not be able to post a score in this group (due to having posted it in five groups already) even if they want to. So, I have decided to do this: If you have a score you can't add here, but would like to have available for competition use, post a link to it as a reply in this discussion and I'll add it to a list of usable scores.

Scores not posted here that can be used in competitions:
(So far, none)
