!!!Competition #6 2.0!!!

REBOOTING COMP 6!
The theme is:
"Drifting in space. (happy-ambient)!!!

So basically:
Make a nice, mystic sort of piece. Very very soft. not extremely orchestral and grand. Almost a nice sounding ominous silence with a very gentle flow. It has to be a calm, relatively relaxing piece that is soothing to listen to and feels like floating in the vast beauties of space."

Judging will happen FEBRUARY 3rd! If it doesn't happen before the 10th, then please select a judge yourself on the 10th!

(I do appologise ahead of time for any inconvenience)

Competition Judge

Hello my fellow composers. Due to his busy schedule, Wolfframe Von Winchester will not be able to judge these Sci-Fi competitions for a while:( So it's up to us to decide a new judge. If anyone would like to volunteer for the position, feel free to post below. If not, I will remove myself from the competition and try to judge until Winchester gets back.

Competition #6

Alright, you know the drill!
The theme is:
"Drifting in space. (happy-ambient)!!!
So basically:

competition is open from now until Dec 18. I will be on Christmas break by then I think so I should definately judge before January, but of course Christmas season is busy so I won't promise to judge super quickly!
May the odds...
wait...
A true hero does what is good even if the odds are against him. I'll just say this: Have fun, happy thanksgiving, and do well!

Well, consider it a tie where all of you win, would that work? 'CAUSE THAT WAS AMAZING!!!! Alright, I have picked SoysauceK for the winner, but it was close. REALLY close. I'm thinking about coming up with a new way of scoring, but I might just find someone who knows how to judge... If you all think of a better judge tell me and I'll consider, 'cause I am unworthy to judge this stuff! Great job all of you! SoysauceK, you pick the theme of the next contest!

Comment: Ok, wow, those drums that start after the halfway point really add effect, and then when they drop away again… Just wow, that was awesome. I could talk about more than the drums, but that’s what I was thinking about when I wrote this..

Competition #5

Alright, Competition 5 begins! Same rules as usual, and the theme, as picked by Elliot Butler, is "ethereal... as if someone were standing on the surface of a completely empty planet."
ready,
set,
go!
you have until November 11th to post a score for this contest. I cannot promise I will judge immediately, but if I still haven't judged in five days (Nov. 16th) I will appoint another person to judge so that we can move on. If I fail to appoint a judge by the morning of Nov. 17th, you may pick a judge yourselves, a judge who is not participating in the contest.
I don't want to make you all wait so long to be judged like I did last time!

UPDATE Competition #5

Hey, all. It appears we have a new member who has asked for an extension on the contest. I am giving another week, so all the dates I mentioned will be moved seven days. Make sense? I won't extend it any farther for this contest, so be sure to get entries in on time.

Check it out

Hey, everyone! sirman1234 has made an awesome new group, the aim of which is to collect sci-fi music. If you're looking for a place to showcase your sci-fi music, that's the group to share it on! So, here's the link: https://musescore.com/groups/4783881
Also, if you tell him that I introduced you to that group he will give you a free 'ride' in the working, 100% complete, 1:1 scale replica of the Star Trek transporter he built!
Not really.

Alright! now, Elliot Butler, you may pick the theme of the next sci-fi competition.
Note: the next contest will have a deadline much farther away than usual.

Competition #4 - Battle

Competition 4 will be attack/battle. It begins now and ends the 16th at noon.
In case you haven't heard, I have retracted the cover art rule. You no longer are required to have a picture ont the front - but I encourage you to do it anyway.
Also, a side note: I love video game soundtracks, but I almost never listen to the battle music. the battle music is usually the same everywhere - fast beat, loud, and REALLY repetitive. I would really like to see some interesting battle music. Try going above the norm. and getting creative with battle music.
Good luck, and may the odds be never in your favor.
I mean, ever - ever in your favor.

Comp. #3 BEGIN!

Alright, the theme for this one is "artificial inteligence", so write music for an artificial intelligence. This could be something like Aurora from Starkindler, Megaman.EXE from Megaman BN, Data from Star Trek, etc. Even the mobs in Minecraft have their own AI, but of course Minecraft ain't no science fiction. Have fun!
This will be judged HOPEFULLY on the 2nd or 3rd. No promises though: I'm starting school...
Also, I will be gone from Aug 28th-Sept 2nd, so ask questions sooner rather than later!

Comp. #2 RESULTS

Winner: Œnanthic
Sirman1234: Boldly to the Stars (Original Composition)
Sound: 8/15
Originality: 13/15
Œnanthic: “In Dystopia.”
Sound: 12/15
Originality: 13/15
So hard! Dystopia was terrible, because, well, it’s dystopian!!! I had to work to come up with the statistics above, but the reality is that whatever the numbers should be, “In Dystopia.” really did the best at portraying a dystopian world. Lesson to be learned:
Sirman1234’s song sounded WAY better; I hope I never hear Œnanthic’s song again. That is because Sirman1324’s song was beautiful, and Œnanthic’s was ugly. Don’t be fooled by authors/directors who want you to think that dark, nasty dystopia is cool.
Alright, Œnanthic, you may now pick the theme of the next contest!

Competition #2

Alright, ready for another contest? The theme for this one is dystopia, as picked by TheSanman. I am excited to see how this turns out. I haven't had much experience in dystopian music, so I may need to do some research. The rules should be the same for this contest, and both remixes and original compositions are welcome! DEADLINE is the 19th.

RESULTS

Winner: TheSanman - Sagittarius B2 The Space Bar

DaKook: Space Trip
Sound: 14/15
Originality: 13/15
_____________
Total: 27/30
Comments: Wow, very interesting percussion. Sounds like a Space-Western. Giddyup, Scotty!
-----------------------------------------------------------
TheSanman: Sagittarius B2 The Space Bar
Sound: 14/15
Originality: 14/15
_____________
Total: 28/30
Comments: Woah, dude, SPACE JAZZ! I know there was that catchy Mos Eisley, but this is better. Sounds super legit like what you’d hear at a fancy bar or café.

Very hard to judge! I loved both songs SO MUCH! Origionality was the factor that turned it in TheSanman's favor. 7/8 time and just overal stuff that was unexpected and unusual. DaKook's score was not as origional in that regard. It was 4/4 time and the chords and runs were more.... predictable? That's not the right word is it? Traditional? Expected? Something.
Great job both of you all! And let me say again that DaKook's sounds like a Space-Western soundtrack, which is SUPER AWESOME!

Competition 1 is Closed

Alright, y'all, the first competition closes. I thank you all for you questions and comments and whatnot, they were very helpful. Now I must go to work judging...
What did I get myself into here?
I will do my best in judging, but whoever wins, both scores were so awesome I've been listening to them over and over again and just thinking "Boy I wish I had a million dollars to spend on HQ speakers the better to hear this with."

Comp. #1 notice

HELLO!!! So it turns out I'm busy on the 5th, which is when I said I'd judge the contest. I think I can still have plenty of time to judge and post results, but there is a possibility! I will almost certainly get the results posted on the 6th if I really can't do it on the 5th. I appologize ahead of time for any inconveniences this may cause. With that said, THE COMPETITION ENDS THIS WEEK!!! I hope to see many great scores.
(I also hope that I don't do such a bad job judging that I am excomunicated from Musescore.)

Sci-Fi Composition Competition #1 (Wild-Card)

Alright, for the first one it's a wild-card, meaning you can compose an origional or remix/arrange a song from any sci-fi you want. The winner will pick the theme for the next competition. But first, the rules!
1 - Absolutely must be G-rated content. Nothing bad, AT ALL..
2 - Remix or arrangment? Then you must have the name of the origional and the name of the sci-fi it is from. example: Star Trek Main Theme, from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
3 - If you use someone elses work, in any capacity, you must include a link to their song. For instance, if you search MuseScore for Binary Sunset and use somebody's version of that to help write your own, you must include the link to that. Also, you should have John Williams credited in there somewhere because he wrote it in the first place.
4 - Have a picture on the cover.
5 - You may offer criticism of other scores in the competition, unless they ask you to stop, but you must be kind. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not mean criticism.
6 - Your music must be longer than 1 min. and less than 6 min.
7 - Have "Sci-FiCW in the title.
AND HAVE FUN.
You have until the 5th. I will post results at noon, I hope.

Judging guidelines

Category_____Points Possible
Sound________10
Origionality___10
Faithfulnes____10
If it sounds cool, has some origionality, and stays faithful to the origional, then your score is in good shape. Score with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, I will let people do rock-paper-scissors. oh wait, that don't work on computures... I guess if I really can't decide I will have someone else decide.
Alright, get workin'!
