So at my high school, we have our own orchestra (and band, but Orchestra's better). We only have Violin, Viola, and Cello. So when people talk about Violins and Cellos I simply say: "Violins are too high, Cellos are too low, and Violas are the cream of the Oreo." What's usually the favorite part of the Oreo? The cream! Do you agree?
I have this strange way of reading music.
My first instrument was violin, meaning I first leaned how to play in C treble clef. I learned how to read bass clef for piano, then Bb treble clef when I started writing music, as well as Eb treble clef, then finally alto clef when I started playing viola last year.
BUT instead of reading the note on the alto clef music (for an example) as an F, in my head I immediately call it a G, relating it to C treble clef music; I also do that with Bb tc and Eb tc. Does anyone else do the same?
In a way, it's a good thing because I can easily relate to the basic C tc, but if someone asks me to play a certain note (viola-wise, for an example) I'll play the note they said as in C tc, if that makes any sense ;)
Hello! I'm searching for someone to make transcriptions of some rock pieces for solo Viola. I will be really happy with something like Roman Kim's version of ,,Highway Star".
I know how to do 3rd position and I am now starting to use the 2nd one, but I don´t the 30% of the notes well. Do you know any trick that will help me learning the position relatively fast?.
Hi! I'm excited to see all these viola players gathered in one group. It's so hard to find a good spot like this because violas are so underrated. Anyways, I'm an aspiring viola player who needs a LOT of practice, and I was wondering if any of the more experienced players could recommend some music that might be good for someone playing at a 6th-8th grade level. I've only been playing for 3 years, so I think that would be a good area for me. Thanks!
person sees my viola case
person: do you play the violin
Me: no I play the viola
person: isn't that just a big violin
me; no it is not. It is better and sounds better and has different strings and a different clef.
Okay, I'm gonna keep this short. I have a quintet comprised of 2 violins, viola (me), cello, bass. We are all in 8th grade, moving on to our Freshman year. If someone could please help me find some music to keep our quintet alive, please let me know. I would like "Wake Me Up" by Avicii, but anything that is upbeat and exciting would be nice. We are more dedicated than your typical middle-school players, however still require some simple music. Thank you!
I am an eighth grade viola player. ME and 6 other people are looking for a song to play at GMEA Solo and Ensemble this year.
If you can help me, the song:
-Must have 1st and 2nd violins, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass Parts.
-Cannot be an arrangement of a modern tune.
Are there any other middle school students who can give us a fairly simple song to learn and master, hopefully earning us a high rating.
(We play fairly well, so don't be afraid to give us something challenging. :)
A viola is taken to hospital. The doctor examines her and says:
"There's nothing wrong with you. But you broke your bow. How did that happen?"
Viola: "I only remember the thunderous applause for the composer."
Doctor: "Do you remember his name?"
Viola: "No. I think he was on the first page of the sheet music."
Hey y'all! I'm LuckyFinGirl, new to this group but not MuseScore. I am a long time violist of 11-12 years now (started when i was extremely young) and I recently sparked an interest in composing and arranging music. My music academy has 7 other violists, one as advanced as me and the others intermediate. I'm struggling to come up with a good way to write an ensemble piece on multiple levels. Any ideas, thoughts, tips?
I'm trying to get in a chamber orchestra that hands out scholarships to very good violists. I've only been playing for a year and a half but I'm accelerated.I need a catchy piece that I can work on to really impress the judges. Easy or hard, it just needs to be catchy :)
