Solo Violin Caprice No. 5 in A Minor - N. Paganini, Op. 1, No. 5
For Solo (instrumental or vocal part)
Uploaded on Dec 27, 2018
Niccolò Paganini's fifth caprice has a fair amount of controversy surrounding its execution. Paganini's bowing instructions for the Agitato section are somewhat unclear, giving only one measure of inconsistently slurred notes before writing "simile." Performers have frequently taken liberties with the instructions where they have seen fit, but the exact level of freedom to be taken with it varies from violinist to violinist. Other musicians have decided to eschew the bowings entirely and simply perform the caprice with a constant sautillé. No matter the bowing, however, the piece remains a short but exhilarating ride for both the listener and the performer.
Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!
