For Chamber Orchestra

Uploaded on Dec 5, 2018

I wrote this over the last 4 days for a long-term project I'm currently writing the score to. It's a 30-minute-long drama film set in 1950's London, and whilst it's still in the development phase, the production team are aiming for a late-2019 release. It's quite a tragedy, and this is a draft of what I'm picturing for the very last scene of the film.

Thanks to this film, I've actually been granted the opportunity to record the soundtrack late next year in London whilst I'm on holiday there. The size the ensemble hired will greatly depend on budget, I imagine, and as that's not fixed yet I don't yet know whether I'll be writing for a string quartet or a small orchestra. Time will tell. This'll be my first time collaborating with orchestrators and sound-engineers, too, who'll be hired sometime down the line (hint hint... I don't know how many strings I'd be allowed to pull, but maybe I could bring on a couple musescorers to join the music department...?)

In the interim, I'm still working on the soundtrack of the horror web-series I mentioned a while ago (https://musescore.com/spencervanderkley/scores/5276130). As far as I'm aware, the cast and crew begin to shoot the first episode in two days time, which means that in a couple weeks I'll be handed a rough cut of the episode, and have a short amount of time to rock up a draft score (I don't know whether to be more excited or scared).

Hopefully I'll also have time to write more stand-alone pieces over the next month or two, thanks to holidays, because I know I've been a bit slack on that recently :) That said, I haven't slept much for the last few days - I wrote this piece in about 50 hours over 4 days, which was somewhat draining, so I might have a snoozy week now before digging into a Christmas special.

NOTE: This score is a piano reduction of the original. I've deliberately not uploaded the orchestral score so as to avoid plagiarism. If you want to see a rough version of the whole thing, just say and I'll email it through (if I trust you enough :D)
