Bend In The River

Uploaded on Oct 17, 2016

I wanted to call this Summer Love, but decided to save that title to a lyrical piece with the same chord progressions. Also, when I finished this piece I was totally ashamed of what it was about and what it meant. I just called it Bend in the River, because it was about an experience that bent the river I had flowing in my life. I made sure to craft this one carefully, but it wasn't an easy piece to work on. I've come to terms with it and I'm able to admit that this piece is a musical representation of how my life changed after I was sexually assaulted. The 7/8 section reflects the confusion and conflict that comes with it even years after it happened. I feel like I could close my eyes and listen to this piece forever. It takes me into a place where I can process what happened far from judgment or ridicule from others as well as myself. To its core, it is an escape from the terrible reality my life had turned into.
