Funny, I don't know Nico nor do I know the original prelude and fugue in itself. But I find this joyous music really enjoyable, à la Bach to me. I particularly like how you intertwined the different voices so that they sound harmonious to the ear. Well done, I'm of course looking forward to hear your other compositions, because I see you've got plenty of them.
Nico Verrips was one of my teachers, many years ago. He belongs (I believe he is still alive) to a generations of musicians that shaped Dutch church singing as it is today. He composed some fine hymn tunes. This one is probably known best, likely because of its simplicity. The hymn text of Willem Barnard about birds is also childlike, but also somewhat surrealistic. So it not quite the average children's song.
Bravo, Hans. A pretty tune made better!
