Thank you very much for your kind comments. :) I really like the challenge of composing easy music for children (I don't know if this piece is too scary for children!) or beginners. I try to use as few different notes as possible and avoid any awkward technical difficulties without getting the feeling that there are notes missing only so that the piece could be made easy to play. In this piece the first piano has only two different notes to play, the second has only the melody and the third hasn't got many notes either. In many cases I think it's much more difficult, at least for me, to compose good easy music which is practical and easily playable than to compose difficult music which is unpractical and very hard to play. So it's very nice to hear when someone thinks that an easy piece of mine works actually as music! If you have the time please look at my other pieces for children. I think you are right about the D minor. I gave it a lot of thought. However, when I composed this piece I tried not to think of it as tonal music at all (there was no tonal music in medieval times and I had this idea of a medieval fortress...), although it could be of course thought of in tonal terms. When the b flat occurs in the music it's only when it's doubling the melody a perfect fifth downwards to make a kind of medieval organum. Or then it's the one beginning from D that is the real melody (in d minor), or tenor. But then the piece begins and ends with the one beginning from A without the one beginning from D and thus making a strong case that the one beginning from A is the true melody and that the b flat note would be there only to make a perfect fifth and not to imply the modern d minor scale. Well, I am not an expert in music theory. Maybe I'll change all the b flats to natural so that there would be a nice tritone. That would be diabolical! But I could be burned at the stake… =D Maybe I'll leave it as it is for now. I somehow like it more without the one flat signature even though it could be wrong in terms of modern music theory. But if everybody insists it has to have a 1 flat signature...
