Borodin - In The Steppes Of Central Asia arranged for organ
Uploaded on Nov 9, 2019
This piece goes down very well at Christmas / Epiphany as it represents a caravan crossing the desert, the pedal part depicting the hooves of the horses and camels.
Like Dubois’ Epiphany piece ‘Marche Des Rois Mages’, a weight – or an assistant – is employed to hold down a high note representing perhaps a star or perhaps the shimmering horizon.
I have put in some fingering and pedalling from my own copy as well as suggestions for manual changes for an average organ.
This piece works also surprisingly well on a small two manual ‘village’ organ with the eastern melody played on the swell oboe accompanied on a suitable great stop such as the dulciana. Some changes would have to be made to the suggestions in the score however all fingering, registration suggestions etc. can of course be deleted or edited using Musescore.
