秋梅念春竹 (Bamboo Growing in the Spring's Mourning)

A man and his wife stand at the doorway. His wife holds a baby and begs him not to leave, but he is enlisted as a soldier to participate in the war. When her ceaseless attempts to get him to stay fail, he promises, "Next year at this time, when the bamboo grows I will be back. I promise." His wife lets him go, reassured by his promise.
2nd section- bar 16
His wife misses him and waits for him, continuously counting the days when spring would arrive.
3rd section- bar 23
His wife finds out that he died in battle, and violent wails are heard. Her crying gets softer as she accepts the reality.
4th section- bar 32
Spring comes and his wife still misses him. The bamboo grows and she is reminded of him and remembers the promise he made.
