Song of Batai for Full Orchestra

Uploaded on Jun 1, 2017

This tune is called "Song of Batai," and it was written by Jay Chattaway for use in the Next Generation episode "The Inner Light," in which Picard lives another life as Kamin and learns this song. It reappears in the episode "Lessons," in which it is played with Lt. Comm. Darin in the Jefferies tubes near Engineering. This arrangement is a full orchestral arrangement based on my previous arrangements of this tune in honor of the episode's 25th anniversary and The Next Generation's 30th anniversary.

"The Inner Light," the episode that this one was originally from, was the writer's only Trek episode, yet is not only considered by many Trekkies-myself among them-to be the best Trek episode in the past 50 years, but is also one of only two Trek episodes to win a Hugo Award-the other one being The Original Series episode "City on the Edge of Forever." It's a tune from an episode that has spurred in many just how short life really is and yet how much of a difference we truly could be if we quite simply "sieze the time" and "live now," for "now will never come again." I hope that this arrangement tuly inspires you to make now always the most precious time, for it will never come again.

I hope you enjoy my arrangement, and as always let me know what you think!
