Mozart was a member of the Masonic order. His Freemasonry was an important factor in his life, as he composed several works in honor of the society. This work is translated as "Masonic Funeal Music". This work was first performed at the funeral for two of Mozart's fellow brethren, Duke Georg August of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Count Franz Esterházy von Galántha.
