Romp on a Simple Theme (musical.catfish05 Arrangement)
Uploaded on Aug 14, 2019
I suddenly felt like arranging musical.catfish05's "Simple Theme" (https://musescore.com/musical_catfish05/scores/5669488) for his contest in https://musescore.com/groups/musescore-composers/discuss/5046106, so I managed to whip this one up pretty fast. Here's hoping it's on time!
The "Simple Theme" appears in the very first measures, modified to fit right into a bouncy and excitable fast swing jazz piece. Later measures quote most of that theme but diverge swiftly afterwards.
I ripped the instrumentation from the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and I tried to rip some of their style (thick piano chords, cymbal-heavy drum part, walking bass)...but I likely failed at making this sound like a Dave Brubeck Quartet piece.
The fugue-style beginning sounds more like something Astor Piazzolla would have composed, though. (He's written some "Fugato" pieces himself.)
The solos use one of the most common eight-bar blues chord progressions. ...OK, I may have fudged some of the chords in that.
...Unfortunately, musical.catfish05 left "All rights reserved" on his melody, so that's all I feel good with putting on this score.
