Melody Notes

in Banjo

Hey guys! Any idea how to highlight the melody notes for banjo tab? Not necessarily for playback purposes, but for a visual for students. I've selected certain notes and turned the color of the melody notes "red", but circling the notes or "bolding" the notes may be a better choice if only able to print in black.

who is chinadoll?

Some folks have wanted to know, "who is chinadoll?" These one or two folks are musescore members with an abundance of free time and curiosity about trivial issues that have nothing to do with music composition. That said (written), let us (me, this is confusing) be clear, they are very nice people and chinadoll is deeply touched (in the head, most likely) by their interest. So here goes.

Chinadoll has beautiful glossy golden brown hair, large soft eyes, a very quiet shy disposition along with an exceptionally sweet and gentle nature. Chinadoll loves loves fresh fruit (especially bananas) and vegetables. Yes, chinadoll is a Syrian Hamster with a bit of a talent for composing music. Late at night when everyone is asleep, chinadoll will tap out the notes on the home computer using her little paws. She loves attention and lots of gentle petting (especially if you give her a treat).

Recommendation System?

People follow other people, fav others' works, so it is very easy (???) to dig up some correlation and recommend songs they ha ven't listened to but liked by people of similar taste.

For now it's quite hard for me to discover good original works of my favorite styles from new composers I haven't followed. It's all random depending on who is posting/spamming on my Dashboard at the time I check it.

Donation donate patreon liberapay

Hi on the page https://musescore.org/en/donate
- It is not cristal clear if donation goes only to the web site or also to the software development.
- It is also not clear if a "Pro" account on MuseScore.org helps the software dev ???
- On the Patreon page it is obvious that it goes to both
- It would be nice to add https://LiberaPay.com/
- It would be nice and encouraging to be able to donate for specific bugs or RFE. (not sure how to implement it. But when you hit a specific issue, that is when you are ready to pay!!)

My scores aren't updating correctly...or at all.

I just finished some major edits in two of my scores, and now musescore won't let me choose the file to replace it with in the edits page, and when I click "save", a random plank page opens that says, "{"result":"ok","info":{"url":"/user/27321385/scores/5666087"}}". Nothing else happens. Is this a bug that found it's way in because of the new feature added earlier, or is this a part of the new feature that is supposed to happen? I need help.

[New Feature] The new form makes it possible to upload Public domain works.

As many of you know, we’ve been recently forced to revise our policy and restrict printing and downloading for basic accounts. Today we’d like to present a new update aimed at making it possible to download Public Domain scores.

What’s Public Domain?
Public Domain is the status of the work whose copyrights have expired and which is now available for download royalty free.
In the basic sense, all works published before 1923 are in the Public Domain, but in fact the status of particular works vary according to the country. Here is the link to the wiki page to learn more about Public Domain.
Music has existed for thousands of years and humanity has created tens of thousands of masterpieces We, like many of our users, would like these works to be distributed as freely as possible.

New Uploading form
We’ve changed the uploading and editing form of scores. Apart from standard fields to fill out, there’s now a new section called “Type of Composition”. In this section, users can mention what work exactly their scores are related to. The options are public domain, original composition or non-public domain.

In case you choose Public Domain, you’ll need to enter the name of the work your score is related to. After it’s been automatically checked, your scores will be available for unrestricted download.

Removing limits to download Public Domain scores
In the nearest future downloading and printing of Public Domain scores won’t be affected by the limits set for basic accounts. We believe it’s not right that users who create quality content have to pay to upload it. This is the first step towards resolving the issue.

Our further plans
- One of our next top priorities is to let original composers manage the downloading feature.
- We will mark up the existing sheet music library according to the Public Domain / Non Public Domain scores. We might need our Community help in this matter.

To sum up
This is a completely new functionality for Musescore, as we’re applying the system to check PD/nonPD compositions for the first time. We can’t exclude the possibility of you finding bugs in the way new algorithms work. Please, don’t hesitate to let us know about any possible issues.
Last but not least, I’d like to point out how grateful we are to our Community for all the support and understanding in this situation. We believe that actions speak louder than words and we’ll prove how important it is to us. We’ll continue to work on spreading and sharing music, and of course, taking good care of composers’, arrangers’ and copyright holders’ rights.

No response to my chromatic trill suggestion?

I know this isn't directly related to musescore.com, it has to do with the software. So I posted it in the feature request section of musescore.org expecting a response. But I got no response. So I was wondering if you wanted to look at this:

https://musescore.org/en/node/293148

It has been more than 2 weeks and still no response. That isn't typical for musescore.org to just not respond to my posts at all for 2 weeks. I'm just posting it here, hoping to get more traffic towards the post on musescore.org. Just to clarify, I'm wanting the feedback comments on the musescore.org post. This one is just to get traffic towards my post on musescore.org

MS2 or MS3?

Hello all,

I'm curious as to how many people on this site have transitioned to MuseScore 3.x.x and how many still primarily use MuseScore 2.x.x (I assume 2.3.x, depending on when people last updated), since all MS3 versions are not backwards compatible with MS2 (you can use them to open/read/edit files from older version of MuseScore, but you can't open an MS3 file with any MS2 builds as far as I am aware).

Looking for big band charts

Hi!  Some of you may recognize me, I've been involved with jazz and MuseScore education online forever, but for whatever reason, it only just occurred to me to turn here for music to play :-).

I direct a big band of adult amateur musicians.  We have a library full of the typical charts by Nestico, Mantooth, etc.  I figure some people here have probably created some really great music for conventional (5+4+4+4) big band instrumentation and spent time getting the part to look and all so they are all ready to print and perform, but don't have access to a big band.  If that's you, hit me up!  If your music is for that format and the parts are in good readable shape, we'd love to try them out!  Respond here with links - whether your own music or others' you think we should check out.  My band isn't the Basie band and won't sound like that :-), but I'm happy to make a recording of us doing our best!

This isn't a competition, although who knows, maybe some day we'll organize one.
