New SATB A Cappella Composition - The Gift to Sing

Hello! I thought I would share this with you guys really quickly. I set the poem "The Gift to Sing" for SATB choir, and figured you might like to hear it, since the meaning of the poem and the composition is one that many of us live by - there is nothing better or stronger than the gift to sing. :)

I would also love any critiques you would be willing to offer, because there are still a few chords and things here and there that I am unsure about. I know that this piece requires a big range for each vocal part, but I think it should be manageable (at least from a soprano's perspective) - so if you have any thoughts on that or anything else as well, I would love them!

This is a really special piece to me, as it is for my old choir director, who is the one who inspired me to pursue music as a career. I would appreciate any and all comments and critiques you have, because I want this to be as good as possible when I give it to her!

Thank you so much! Happy composing and arranging, everyone! :D

Fun Bass Songs?

Our group's got a Tim Foust/Avi Kaplan-level bass singer, and we're trying to find some arrangements that give him some room to really shine. He can pretty easily hit E1's and up, and with a little effort can rumble down to I think F#0 was our last measure. But we're really just looking for something that goes lower than E/D2. If anybody has something it'd be great to possibly see it!

A little info?

I was curious about what type of a capella music you are interested in collecting? Are you looking for arrangements of current pop songs? Are you affiliated with an a cappela church and looking for arrangements of worship songs?

Still more words requiring a composer

These words have 6 syllables in every line. Every other line rhymes. Try writing a song for this visit, by a mysterious stranger, to an inn. (In the middle of a storm)
You think up the title...

The wind howled, thunder roared,
And lightning smote the sky
Rain battered on the roof,
Charcoal clouds swirled on high
A dark figure trudged up
The rain and mud filled lane
His black cape was pulled tight
To try and stop the rain

A lantern shone ahead,
Swinging in the fierce storm
Towards this beacon went
The dark and rain soaked form
Shutters closed to the wind
Showed but a crack of light
To the door he did go
A shadow in the night

The keep heard the wind howl
As he opened the door
And inside, water ran
From cape onto the floor
Face hidden by his brim
His collar turned up high
He closed the tavern door
Against the winds harsh cry

A muddy trail he left
To a chair by the wall
He sat, back to the fire,
For warmth against the squall
From beneath his cape came
A gloved hand with some gold
He beckoned for hot stew
And a mug of ale cold

Reaching up, he undid
The clasps that held his cape
He threw it on a chair,
A black and formless shape
His hair was long and black
Though shadow hid his face
A steel sword turned to gold
By flick’ring fireplace

Silently, ate his stew
Then chased it down with ale
Outside the storm had turned
Into a north-east gale
He stood and donned his cape
And turned towards the door
Without a word he went,
Across the cold black moor.

I've decided to stay with Musescore

When MS first changed it's format, I was extremely upset. It was a very poor transition with LOTS and LOTS of errors. In the past six months they have cleaned up a lot of problems. They still have not addressed two major problems, as I see it.
1) When cruising the dashboard if you listen to a song, you must go back to the top of the dashboard again. I can go through 7 or 8 pages and then frustration sets in. MS should work towards their software remembering where you are in your dashboard. This would make it much easier to peruse titles.
2) I believe that favourites do not belong on a composers profile page. I would much rather have another 5 of my scores scores show up. This may just be me, but there are many reasons for giving a favourite. Since MS has no "Like" button, I use the Fav for that function. When a young composer has spent a lot of time and energy in trying to write a masterpiece I feel that a fav rewards them for their work. When I really, really like a song... I just download it and add it to my library.

I have looked at other sites, and I see advantages to MS. I will stay, I also intend to make this group larger and more active.

Thanks to all of you members for sticking to the group.
Cheers
Richard
