Is 'Laugh Silly' a legitimate art form?

Laugh Silly is a group on Musescore. What is really meant by the question is: Can music that focuses on being silly just to provoke a laugh, music that seems to enjoy depreciation and decomposition as laugh-worthy themes, music that further seems to work hard at avoiding being serious, be considered a serious art form worthy of respect? And wouldn't this be totally counter to the point? How can anything that doesn't want to be serious, be considered serious? How can anything that doesn't want respect, accept any form of respect? How can anything that simply wants to be silly be an art form? Once it becomes serious, respectful, and an art form, it basically disintegrates and is no longer what it sets out to be. It is a quandary. Are we asking the wrong question?

National Marching Band Day!

Hey guys, we need 100,000 signatures to make this an official holiday!!
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/establish-march-4th-national-marching-arts-day/dLVPm2p6
By establishing March 4 as "National Marching Arts Day," we will celebrate the positive effects on young people and our society from lessons learned and life skills acquired through involvement with the unique collection activities which comprise the "marching arts."
These activities includes marching bands, drum corps, drill teams, color guards, drum lines, step teams, string bands, pipe bands, fife and drum groups, military bands, ceremonial groups and other ensembles promoting music making, entertainment, cultural enrichment, self-confidence, leadership training, responsibility, competition, good sportsmanship and fun.

If you could have any trombone in the world...

Hey fellow trombonists.
Many of you may not know this, but while you may play tenor or bass trombone there are tons of other types. So out of any style of trombone ever what would you put on your wish list. For me it's the Buccin, a trombone only ever used in France from 1810-1845 that has a Sousaphone like bell with a dragon's head on the end. The thing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Buccin_yeo_01.jpg) is one of the coolest looking instruments I've ever seen!
So what do you guys think?

Interesting Quartet Pieces

Hello!
I am an eighth grade viola player. ME and 6 other people are looking for a song to play at GMEA Solo and Ensemble this year.

If you can help me, the song:
-Must have 1st and 2nd violins, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass Parts.
-Cannot be an arrangement of a modern tune.

Are there any other middle school students who can give us a fairly simple song to learn and master, hopefully earning us a high rating.

(We play fairly well, so don't be afraid to give us something challenging. :)

THANK YOU!!!

Star Wars Competition

in Brass

Hello everyone, I am tehdude15, and I will be assuming authority of the Brass group until Januslj gets back from hiding in the woods (metaphorically). This group is just a division of The Master Composers/Arrangers:

I am going to host a contest. The winner of this contest moves up to the finalist round hosted in The Master Composers/Arrangers group. Here are the rules:

1- Submit your best Star Wars arrangement.

2- It can be any song from any Star Wars movies, arranged by you without help from someone else.

3- Your score has to be at least 20 seconds long (no limit to how long it can be).

4-Voting will open 12am (Pacific Time), May 15, 2012.

5-Voting will close on 7pm (Pacific Time), May 18, 2012.

6-You cannot vote on your own composition FOR WHATEVER REASON.

7-Tell me your entry as soon as possible.

8-Do not enter a composition with impossible parts.

9-Just because this is a Brass group, it doesn't mean your entry piece has to be all brass. It could be a Bagpipe Quartet for all I care.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Email your MuseScore name and the name of your entry piece, with correct capitalization, to cgd97@yahoo.com
Join The Master Composers/Arrangers if you want to vote in the finalist round.
I am lenient on rule 8.
