"How to write (better) lyrics?" - A tip

 Hi,

how do you write interesting lyrics, how do you avoid cliches, how do you find and create interesting metaphores, how do you create something beautiful, how to change lyrics into which directions, what's your rhyme-dictionary, how to avoid the perfect rhyme?

These are the subject of Pat Pattison's books. Pat is to lyrics what a mechanic is to my car :)

Just as a teaser:
* lyric is a car
* car of lyric
* lyric's car

-> what images do these create for you, and how can you use them for your lyrics?
E.g.
* lyric brings you to destination, lyrics move, lyrics entice
* / your turn :)

Best, Michael

Getting very young children interested in music

I think that the new "piano Roll" to keyboard software is fantastic and I would like to know how this could be used to bring keyboard skills to very young children and how to present this as a computer game using very simple songs and progressing both in speed and complexity. This could then be possibly transferred to music notation? Is this type of learning available to inspire our very young people? I wish that I had this opportunity when I was young

Solo and Ensemble Season

in Brass

Two days ago my Band Director has annoced that Solo and Ensemble Season has begun and we need to find groups. I’ve found my group, and it consist of 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombones and 1 Tuba. I’ve been searching everywhere for a piece that has the instruments we play, is there anyone who has composed/transcomposed a Solo and Ensemble Quintet like ours? Or recommend a piece that we can play/perform? btw: we are in the Wind Symphony Band in our high school.
