Did MuseScore just run out of money, switch to a new IT staff (idk the technical names of anything development related), or just completely give up on life? It seems as though the site was great before and Songbook was good. Since then everything has gone to crap with poor costumer support/money scams, new daily bugs, and old function-breaking bugs. You can’t even play scores without the musescore app. I hope made the point clear for anyone living under a rock for the past several months, I just want to know if anyone knows the story on this sites downfall?
Historically, MuseScore has had two mobile apps for Android: a paid one (Songbook) and a free one (MuseScore). There's also a desktop version of MuseScore where users can have Pro accounts that are not linked to any of the apps which means they can't use their premium features there.
The vast majority of users use MuseScore Android to browse scores and in only a couple of years of its existence, about a million users have launched it at least once. These numbers inspire us to move forward and continue improving MuseScore products even further.
Today, I want to announce a significant update that will be released shortly and after which MuseScore will transition to a cross-platform Freemium model.
This means that we'll unify subscriptions and accounts of the two existing apps and the desktop version of MuseScore. This way, Pro users from desktop will finally be able to use all premium features of the mobile app which will help us concentrate our efforts on improving it.
Why are we doing this?
Our business model is 'Make products, not content'
We put a lot of effort into improving our products. Mobile apps are a direction that we deem one of the most prospective ones and where we put the most effort into.
While some companies make their apps free in stores but ask money for the access to scores, we negotiate with right holders of the scores in order to give our users free access to all public scores provided by our community.
We're searching for new competitive monetization models that will allow us to stay on par with market's powerhouses and we want to achieve this by continuously improving our services.
All scores should be available to everyone
This is our core value. Any user from any device should have the most convenient way of accessing scores. The main advantage of the freemium model is that it allows all users to explore the app and upgrade their access if they like it enough. And by 'like' we firstly mean quickly and easily finding what users need or getting a lot of views on their own scores.
Freemium works, it's how the majority of the mobile apps operate
We believe that the freemium model is the most prospective way of the mobile app development and that it'll let us accumulate more resources for turning MuseScore Android from a simple score browser to an invaluable tool for any musician.
Pro users shouldn't have any restrictions when they use our products. From the very first day of our work, we've been thinking how to give more value to pro users. Since then, we've introduced a lot of new features most important of which is being able to access all features of the mobile app. Users who previously bought MuseScore Songbook will soon get the access to the full version of the MuseScore mobile app (to get the access you’ll need to log in to your new account).
Freemium means free
We'd like to note that these changes don't mean our apps will be hidden behind a paywall. The key functions of the app such as search and playback will remain free. However, some extra features like the offline access, opening scores from the local storage and a couple of others will be paid.
We want more feedback and more ideas
We want to make our apps the best and the most useful for beginners and pros alike. That’s why we want to implement as many helpful instruments as we can and looking forward to receiving feedback from you. Bringing all products together will let us concentrate on developing them. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to share them here or in the ‘Improving MuseScore’ group. Thanks for reading!
Can you sing?
No: There are other instruments.
Yes: Let's do it!
Many of my older scores that use VideoScores as "Default Audio" no longer play when the user presses the play button. For instance: https://musescore.com/mike_magatagan/scores/213471 .
If I go to "Manage Audio", select the VideoScore and uncheck "Default Audio", the score plays normally.
There does not appear to be anything in error with the underlying VideoScore and this feature was working last month. I'm hoping this can fixed on the web-side as I have many scores that are affected by this issue and there is no user remedy for the listener; disabling the "Default Audio" is not an option when custom audio was used.
In this release, we published major fixes related to crashes and freezes of the interface.
* Fixed the problem of "black screen" while opening a score.
* Fixed a lot of freezes.
* Fixed "without auth" mode.
If you run into problems, I’m waiting for you in the comments under this post.
How big/flexible are your hands?
My right hand can stretch an 11th chord
My left hand can also stretch an 11th chord
I'll take Au lac de Wallenstadt by Liszt as an example, I can play:
The last chord, which goes as follows:
ab -> eb -> ab -> c
The very first chord, which goes as follows:
ab -> eb -> c
with my left hand
eb -> next octave -> ab
(without the grace notes inbetween)
with my right hand
My handspan is approximately 25cm, but I have flexible fingers :D
Now, what about you? ^_^
I downloaded the app on my smartphone (android version 4.2.2) but unfortunately the scores do not open up and I only see a blank page. However i can listen to the score and choose other settings since the blue bars appear. I would truly appreciate your help.
Thank you in advance
When I open MuseScore, my collections are empty. How do I restore them?
Our latest update brought the correction of network requests and the freezes of UI, as well as the long-awaited export to PDF by parts.
1. Opening scores.
If you encounter problems in this release, please share details so that we quickly fix the problem.
18+? or normal
So, I am a trumpet player (this is my 3rd year playing) who will be starting to play in the high school marching band next year! I would love to meet a few trumpet players who are around the same age and skill level as me. If thats you, lets talk!
I just noticed a few minutes ago that some users had their profile pictures bordered with black and showing the pic in it's entirety rather than having it filled within the profile picture circle. Does anyone know anything about this or has anyone seen the same thing as I did?
Problem 1: paragraph breaks are removed, so the resulting format looks horrible.
Problem 2: trying to re-edit a message fails, with the message content truncated.
Example of an edit failure (Problem 2). When I try to edit my reply in this thread:
the message content is truncated after the text " Je pense que Mark fait référence "...
Just noticed that the whitespace (Carriage control and paragraph separation) is being removed from all descriptions add to MuseScore.com scores making formatted descriptions appear as a monolithic blob
I am writing a piece for a group here on Musescore. I don't want to give the piece away because it isn't finished. But there is one thing that I really need. That is a one note diminuendo. The note is 2 whole notes tied together and I want it to smoothly go from forte to pianissimo. Currently, with the most recent version of Musescore 3.0.5, I can't do that just using a diminuendo. When Musescore 3.1 comes out, I will be able to do that. But I am really in need of that effect right now.
Any ideas on how to get it to sound like a single note is fading away from a strong forte to a gentle pianissimo? Because right now, I have a held forte followed by a sudden pianissimo which is not what I am wanting.
For me, it was vacuums and, even weirder, decapitation. Idek why... Its sposed to be quick and painless but it just terrified me despite the unlikelyness
I guess it’s not that secret anymore then, but I wanted to say that.
Different sections of the piece will be based on data I collected from different users. If you know what it is good for you don’t spoil it plz. The users contained will be as follows (this list is unbiased as I chose everyone I collected data from) : Rebecca Y, miscalaneous02, Astronix2, SupremeLemonBread, The Musical Rattlesnake, Mr Peabody, Lizzapie, Okely Dokely, Pianodudette, and Shellcrush.
edit now Jaybird1 too
Ok thanks for reading

7. Everyone is subject to these rules. Even this power-abusing admin is subject to these rules. Going against them will have repercussions. Your fic will be removed. If you're rule-breaking seemingly on purpose, I know how to get creative with troublemakers, but essentially, 1 strike is a warning, two is a more important warning and three is termination of membership.
8. All fandoms are tolerated.
9. No flaming in the comments. No flaming in the discussions either. Do not hate on other fandoms expressly.
10. For feedback and critique, negative feedback is important, but don't be completely brutal to the point of upsetting others. Constructive criticism is excellent, but everyone hates being hated on. Try to say what needs working on, but also be nice about it.
11. If something will contain spoilers for something, DO warn us beforehand.
12. Nothing under 500 words. No limit otherwise, but no walls of text.
Or, the short version of everything above: be nice, don't spam, write well, use spellcheck, put in effort and keep it appropriate for 12+.
If you aren't sure about anything, contact me, Seventetails Alolan Form/Pulsing Utopia.
As for rules about writing next to scores, same thing, but no chaptered fics, keep it short-ish (4000 words max) and explain beforehand.
Now, everyone, let's write! :D
