Nein, nein, Fernando, nein! is from Act two of HWV 1, "Almira", composed by Georg Friedrich Händel in 1704. He was only 19 at the time, but it was by no means an immature work. It is bilingual: all the recitatives and some of the arias are in German, but there are also 14 arias in Italian. It was Händel's frirst Opera. It was one of four operas that he wrote for the Hamburg Opera House. All four were kept at the Hamburg Opera House, which later burned down, destroying them. There was however an almost complete but inaccurate copy of Almira elsewhere, so it alone of the four has survived. The other three were called "Nero," Florinda," and "Daphne." Alvira is unique among Handel's surviving oeras in that it has no castrato roles. I don't know if the other three Hamburg operas had castrato roles, bu I suspect not. This is an extended recitativo secco for Almira, Osman, and Consalvo. I originally made it as a MIDI files, but now have converted it to a Musescore 2 file.
