Nein, nein, Fernando, nein! is from Act two of HWV 1, "Almira", composed by Georg Friedrich Händel in 1704. He was only 19 at the time, but it was by no means an immature work. It is bilingual: all the recitatives and some of the arias are in German, but there are also 14 arias in Italian. It was Händel's frirst Opera. It was one of four operas that he wrote for the Hamburg Opera House. All four were kept at the Hamburg Opera House, which later burned down, destroying them. There was however an almost complete but inaccurate copy of Almira elsewhere, so it alone of the four has survived. The other three were called "Nero," Florinda," and "Daphne." Alvira is unique among Handel's surviving oeras in that it has no castrato roles. I don't know if the other three Hamburg operas had castrato roles, bu I suspect not. This is an extended recitativo secco for Almira, Osman, and Consalvo. I originally made it as a MIDI files, but now have converted it to a Musescore 2 file.

This chorus was originally written for the church cantata number 23, number 5, but Johann Sebastian Bach used it in 1725 as the final chorus for the "Saint John Passion," BWV 245, and maybe again in 1732, I am not sure about that. But in all performances thereafter the two chorus composed by the oratorio in 1724 were reinstated. I am now done with the Saint John passion, except for uploading number 39, which is done, but I seem not to have uploaded it yet. It will be along in just a few minutes! This file should download into Musescore 3 without issues.

This was number 40 in the "Saint John Passion," BWV 245, composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1724, but not used in 1725 and maybe not in 1732 - not sure about that one. It was used in all later revisions and revivals. The File used in 1725 for sure and maybe 1732 will follow - I am not done with this passion oratorio yet!. This should download to Musescore 3 properly.

This aria for soprano in f minor is number 245 in the "Saint John Passion," BWV 245, composed in 1724 by Johann Sebastion Bach. It was not used in 1732 because objections by the then current church authorities to the use of words from the Gospel of Saint Matthew (not Saint John) in number 33, so Bach omitted numbers 33--35. Downloading this into Musescore 3 should pose no problems, because there is no organ part.

This Arioso for Tenor was written for the "Saint John Passion" by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1724 as number 34. It was not used in 1725 because church authorities didn't like the preceding recitativo secco used text taken from Saint Matthew rather than Saint John.

This recitativo secco for the Evangelist was number 33 in the "Saint John Passion," BWV 245, composed in 1724 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The reason this was not used in 1725 is that church authorities objected to the text, since it was taken from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, not Saint John. The next two numbers were likewise not performed in 1725 for the same reason. This file can be loaded in either Musescore 2 or Musescore 3.
